Brain Fatigue

Hi guys, I’m 52 soon and I’m in Menopause. I have Hashimoto’s (under active Thyroid). I eat well (Keto/low carb) do not drink alcohol, non smoker, regular exercise but I am sooooooo “brain tired”. I just want to sleep. My body isn’t tired but my brain is. I can’t concentrate on much and find it difficult to get going with anything. I do go out on my bike which helps. But, much of the time I feel jet lagged, woozy. I’ve researched and it may well be hormone related but I can’t say for sure.

Does anyone else suffer this? Any suggestions on how I can wake my brain up? It’s awful and debilitating. Thank you Mandy

That sounds like it could a thyroid problem; maybe you aren't on the right dose of levo.

Have you got your thyroid blood test results? Drs often don't thyroid disease very well, and symptoms can reappear. You could post them on the Thyroid page on HealthUnlocked. We are all legally entitled to our test results, and we cant be charged for them.

I'd strongly recommend going on their group and posting your results. VERY many of us have not been given optimum treatment, leading to awful symptoms.

I’ve had an under active Thyroid for 26 years. I am on 125mcg of Thyroxine and didn’t give it a thought that maybe it’s not enough. I do need to get my bloods done again, thanks for your reply 👍

Hi. Many thyroid patients aren't on the right dose of thyroxine (T4) or Liothyronine (T3) Ask your dr to test for T4 T3 as well as TSH. Then post results in the thyroid group on HU. Sadly, drs often don't have enough thyroid training. I'm involved with several thyroid patient groups, and have heard many heartbreaking stories. We aren't drs, but have a lot of personal experience. We often get our own private blood tests done at home, so we can get full tests done. When you're hypo, you often don't fully absorb Vit D, Vit B12, ferritin and folate. Ask for them tested too. And in menopause, thyroid hormone levels can change as well. Hope this makes sense !

I felt that way for years due to menopause. I finally was able to convince my doctor to put me on HRT....I feel 100% better now....I'm 72 years old and not worried about the HRT upping chances of breast cancer.

Thanks for your reply. Did the HRT “give you back your brain”? How did you feel before going in it? How quickly did it take to work? Would you mind me asking what HRT you take? Sorry for all the questions....it helps to talk to someone that has felt this way. Thank you Mandy

I just typed a long reply to you and an error occurred and I lost the whole darn thing! Anyway....estradiol norethindrone is what I take..pill form (I would've preferred the patches, but my insurance wouldn't cover that)...lowest dose possible: estradiol: 0.5 mg; norethindrone: 0.1 mg. It doesn't take long to feel the effects....I hope you can convince your doctor to at least let you try a couple month's worth..you'll feel the difference...
