I stopped taking HRT 11 years ago. I'm 64 and still suffer terribly debilitating hot flushes and night sweats. A gynacologist prescribed HRT low dose patches 2 months ago but they haven't eased the flushes nor sweats. I wonder if the cause isn't menopausal related?
Grateful for any response.

🤔 There could be a few different causes, most commonly Hypothyroidism. If it continues it’s worth speaking to your GP.
How long does HRT take to work?
It usually takes a few weeks before you will feel the initial benefits of HRT and up to three months to feel the full effects.
It may also take your body time to get used to HRT. When treatment begins you may experience side effects such as breast tenderness, nausea and leg cramps. Usually these side effects will disappear within six to eight weeks. If they do not, a change in the type or dose of HRT may be necessary and your doctor or nurse will advise you on this. If after four to six months of HRT you have not felt the benefits of the HRT it may help to try a different type.
Thank you so much for replying. My mum has an underactive thyroid. I've been tested in the past but was negative. My mum lost all her body and head hair but never complained of hot flushes. So far I'm still hirsute 😄.
I have a heart problem, Atrial fibrillation, an arrhythmia which I believe can be caused by thyroid issues.
Maybe I need to see a different sort of specialist, rather than a gynacologist.
Again, thanks.
My hematologist thinks that taking hrt for two months made me a) get breast cancer and b) have really bad hot flashes and sweating ever since then (20 years).
