I had a Hormonal iud fitted a couple of months ago and I haven’t really had a period since then, until now. I have had occasional spotting since having it fitted but nothing I would identify as a period. I believe I’m having a period now but it’s concerning me a bit. It’s extremely painful, like the pain I experienced after having the iud fitted, and there is a light flow but it’s very dark in colour. Can anyone tell me if this is normal or anything other info would be great?
I’m taking paracetamol & codeine tablets to try and manage the pain but they aren’t having much effect.
Thank you x

Some women have IUD's fitted to stop periods, though that would depend on whether its the Mirena type that contain a hormonal contraceptive as well.
I'd suggest you see the doctor or clinic that fitted it to check nothing's gone awry. I have two friend's who have had them dislodge, one causing extreme pain & the other that became pregnant. Best get checked up by a professional to avoid any unwanted side effects.
