When should I take probiotics - empty or full stomach?

Hi there, I'm quite confused about when to take my probiotics - on the empty stomach (do they really die in the stomach acids?) or full stomach?

Thanks a lot for your suggestions and help!

And does the quantity of them make a difference? Like I take 30 Bln, and a person with IBS takes 450 bln.

The only type found to survive stomach acid & reach the gut is kefir which has a lot of additional benefits as well as being probiotic.

Can you try fermenting this, & make sure you eat plenty of prebiotic foods to enhance the effect?

Thanks for your piece of advice!

Drinking kefir pretty regularly, but my partner is lactose intollerant plus suffers form IBS so he takes an intense dose of 400 bln on the empty stomach, hence my question.

I ferment dairy kefir, but water fermented grains are also available.

People who are mildly lactose intolerant can sometimes get on with dairy kefir as it eats the lactose first. I needs a longer fermentation to be on the safe side.

Kombucha is also good, & fun to grow, but I think it's the acidity thathelps our digestion rather than the live critters in the scoby. Might be worth trying on your partner.

ps If you're buying shop bought kefir, it only contains lactobacillus, not the additional yeasts & streptococci that form kefir grains. It's also not very live or it would explode on the shop shelves. ;-/
