I have just started on HRT (a little over a month in..). I feel like a new person! I finally found a doctor who would prescribe estradiol/norethrine combo for me..I am 70 years old. Doesn't scare me one bit to take it. I say go for it! You're only 60. I hope I can take it for the rest of my life.

Hey Susie

Where are you from? UK US?

Was it GP or consultant?

Did they do tests before?

Very pleased for you!

I'm in the US (I think your healthcare system is better than ours, by-the-way.) I have a GP and he did not test before prescribing these. I'm just grateful that he went for it, because most of the doctors here won't prescribe if you're "old..." hehe...

Oh..... how wrong you are about NHS. Just because they blow their own trumpet how fantastic they are it doesn't mean anything. Reality is completely different.

You wouldn't get HRT at your age in the UK. In fact you wouldn't get it at all almost at any age on NHS. You'd have to jump so many hoops and wait years. I know, I've been there and I was only 38.

I thought you were in US by the way.

Yes..in the US. Sorry to hear it's not as good as they say. Women normally can't get HRT here either if you're over 60..maybe even younger. Doctors here sound just like the ones you have over there, unfortunately. I think my doctor that prescribed for me finally got tired of me emailing him all the time and going into see him all the time. I made a pest out of myself and he finally gave in!

Hi Susie

Is that the first time you took it.

Are they patches?

Thanks so much

Yes..first time. I was scared off by the study that they did a few years back..just like most women, but now they're backtracking on the study and saying it's "skewed." So, I was able to convince my doctor to let me do it..I have osteoporosis, too, so HRT will build back my bones (although it can take up to 2 years). No..I do not use the patches, because my insurance doesn't cover them. I wish them did, as I would prefer them. I take the estradiol/norethrine combo via pill form.

Hi Susie

Would be great to keep in touch with you, that’s if you don’t mind.

How long did it take for you to decide.

Well..I actually decided about 5 years ago to start asking to take it..I was feeling so run down. My doctor (then) diagnosed me with very low Vit. D (<4)...said she'd never seen levels that low..so I thought that would fix me up...didn't make any difference..so then I was diagnosed with low Vit B12..had shots for a year..help a little, I guess. I needed hormones! Like Izzy says in "Fried Green Tomatoes:" "You need to get you some hormones, girl." Well..I had to change doctors 3 different times over 3 years, and finally this one is letting me do it. I haven't felt this good in years! And, yes, I would love to keep in touch with you. My email address is: sruth24@yaho.com.
