LindaJ94, I'm sorry you have had this diagnosis it sucks doesn't it. I';ve had it for many years and was referred by my Gp for CBT (Cognitive behaviouial therapy) . Have you been referred? There is also a very good website called Anxiety.org.uk which have some very good research and tips. In my case my problems started back in childhood and became a pattern I carried all my life so although its still a working process I am trying to change how I think about things, become aware of when things start to spiral out of control. I try to distract myself with music, reading when I can, although I have a host of other ailments too. there are many books on the subject if reading is your thing.

Sorry I can't be more helpful

I too have severe anxiety at the moment. I have recovered in the past.. I have done this with the help of Claire weakes books ... She teaches accepting all thoughts and odd feelings when in a sensitised state . It's not easy. . Letting time pass. I am going through a blip at the moment but her words encourage me and remind me not to keep adding fear on top of fear . It's a cycle. ..I have started antidepressants five weeks ago as have no appetite. They do not appear to have kicked in yet but I try to take each day as it comes. This latest anxiety all built up from a stomach problem and I have let it get out of hand . .anxiety is really debilitating sometimes. .I know it gets better. I've been here before sadly

Linda,

Sorry about your situation. I have had GAD for a long time but I have been helped by a very low dose of the anti-anxiety medicine, Lorazapam. You can take it only when you need it and it is very effective. If you take it with you and know that you have help in your pocket you can often not need to take it at all.

My very best to you.
