In the last month I have put on 12lbs and when I saw the scale this morning I just burst out crying. I realise I have had a bad month due to birthdays and easter but I thought I was making it better by doing more activites as well as the gym. But obviously not it seems like I am right back to where I started, like it has been for nothing.

Imagine if you had not lost the weight in the first place you would have been 24lbs heavier so dont beat yourself up about it! I go to the gym as well but an hours intensive excersise is only maybe worth a muffin and a latte
By going to the gym hopefully you are fitter too, keep going and keep us posted!
Yes, I guess so.. I'm going to really try and cut down now, because I don't want this to happen again!

I was warned by by sis in law who trains fitness instructors to see gym and exercise as an assistance to losing weight and more positively to getting fitter and healthier. It's true that it takes an awful long time on a teadmill to burn off calories that you wish you hadn't eaten , I know as ate at dad in laws and they'd made Shepard's pie ( not too bad, ate more veg kept portion smaller and declined seconds!) but apple pie was put on table big smile especially for us so that's ur Sunday morn on treadmill etc but know even after 1 1/2 ( bike and x trainer too) I'll be lucky to undo the apple pie lol however I'll feel fitter, more positive that I won't get tripped up again ( visit every 2 weeks but they'd been away for 6 weeks in oz, that's why felt couldn't say no, but two weeks time I can as will explain that I'm just too full up, sneaky way to stop loved ones pushing you for seconds etc!) love the energy exercise gives me but try not to think of calories burnt as then you can be tempted to eat more as you feel you've worked it off. I put on over Easter too and march was birthday and anniversary I put 6 lbs on but hey it's going too take time to get it all right but we will as that's why we are here and you're not alone. So yeah that's Easter and birthday out the way bet most put some on lol but now we are back to becoming losers! And summer will make it easier as warmer weather turns up ( mmm salads ) and by time Christmas appears we will know how to handle it oh huh and get to by smaller party clothes too so some of us lost the eater battle but we will win the weight war....keep us posted
Don't beat yourself up-we have all been there-and I am in the same place as you. Put it behind you and get back on the bus.
It's hard to get out of rut especially when you're feeling down but I had a "bad" day yesterday but I am ignoring it and moving on today. I just keep reminding myself how good I feel after the gym and that keeps me motivated. good luck!
I think we can all say we have been (in my case still are) where you are. The exercise thing is true. I was amazed when Jamie Oliver did a test on some kids once by giving them a choice of treats. The selection was Crisps, Mars bars, cake, and fruit, etc.
He then told them how many times you need to walk round a running track to work it off. The girl who picked the Orange was looking a little smug thinking she would only have to walk a little. She was amazed to find she had to walk round the track about 3 time to work it off. As the others said it good for us to exercise but will take many hours to work off when massively over spent on calories. It's a bit like over spending from our bank account. Sometime we have to ask ourselves is it really worth it and can we afford to do it? Now I need to practice what I preach ;0) Good luck everyone
That's disheartening for anyone! BUT.....have you been measuring yourself in inches or cms? You've been going to the gym, so you may well have put on some muscle, which can increase your weight in pounds. Body measurements are the other way to chart your progress. To demonstrate the thing about muscle....I saw a photo of 2 men,exact same age, exact same height, exact same weight of 11 stones. But the one on the right looked much slimmer and fitter than the one on the left, because he exercised. Exercise makes you feel happier, too. Whatever you do, don't throw in the towel. Keep going to the gym, keep charting everything you eat, be totally honest, and don't go backwards. Go for it, you can do it!
Thanks for the advice and everyones stories, nice to know I'm not alone! But what I didn't realise I have been using weights a lot to try and get rid of fat in my arms, and a number of people have told me they have gained when using weights. So I have stopped doing that and am just going to work harder to ensure I lose it again!
