day one
Hi mikethepark,
Have a good read around the NHSChoices live well lose weight pages. Lots of good advice and information for free, plus a BMI calculator and a free 12 week plan. And have a good read around these blogs and hear first hand from people who are actually doing it.
First step is probably to work out how overweight you are with the BMI calculator and how much weight you intend to lose. Then work out a plan based on a weight loss of not more than about 1 Kg (2.2 lb) a week. You'll lose more than that at first, usually, and you'll have blips and spurts, but that's about the maximum rate of loss you should average out at over the longer term.
Good luck.
thanks for the info ,yep I have read the nhs choices and worked out bmi . now just have to put it into practice .
Hi mikethepark,
like you I managed to loose a stone doing my own thing, but still have a long way to go to reach a healthy weight. I signed up here to keep the motivation up. I've found that increasing the amount of exercise I do has really helped because it helps me to focus on getting fitter rather than just weight loss. When I have a blip with no change (or increase) weight in a week, I think about other changes I've seen since starting my fittness plan, like being able to walk to work faster.
Also like Doikosp says it is really important to plan a target weight loss. My first target is to make it to "overweight" BMI rather than obese. Then to get below 70kg. Hopefully I'll make it there in the end. Remembering my targets and the treats I have planned once I reach them (ipad!) helps me keep going and not give up.
Good luck and keep going!
