Day One

Well it's D day I stepped gingerly on the scales this morning and my start weight is a whopping 16 stone 4 😳 Not good for being 5 foot 2. I have done my bmi and it says I can have just over 1,500 calories a day. This seems really high can I really eat that many? I charged my Fitbit last night and am going to give it my all to try and get healthy xx

Read this, PP, for confirmation that you'll be doing the right thing, by eating more :)

Hi PP,

I too think that sounds on the low side unless you're completely inactive!

Good luck and we're all rooting for you, I know you can't help but get where you're going as you sound really determined. :)

I must admit I am a couch potato and sit at a desk all day. I am going to try and do 10,000 steps a day though xx

It will be fine for you to eat this amount if it tells you to do this to lose weight. It gives you the amount depending on what you already weigh etc as it stops your body from thinking you are starving it. If it thinks this it will turn what you do eat into body fat and this weighs more than the extra calories would so then you won't lose weight. You don't want your body to have any more fat do you. I made this mistake at the beginning and was told this so I upped my calories to the amount the bmi calculator stated and started to lose weight. I have now lost 1st12lbs. Please don't make this mistake.

Thank you. It just seems to go against all the advice usually given of only eating 1,200 a day to lose weight

I am assuming you are talking about things like the my fitness pal app information because I use this and was told to eat only 1200 Cals as well and found this very strange to start with and nearly didn't try it but my husband pushed me to try it for between 2 weeks and 1 month at least to give it a test just in case it was right. I then started losing weight. I was so pleased I tried it.

Lovely to meet you PlusPrincess I wish you success to reach your goals. Once you have your calorie allowance from NHS BMI checker, do take a note of your measurements as you may lose inches when the scales isn't being friendly!! If you don't have a tape, earmark a piece of clothing that you know is a little tight to compare to in days to come.

Cheering you on πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

Thank you. I have taken my waist measurement and saved it on the app. When I used the bmi checker it says I have over 1,500 calories a day. I have weighed everything I need to today. Hopefully there will be less of me next week xx

I took and take, my bust, under bust (where the bra strap goes), waist, hips, upper thigh and upper arm. Some also do their neck.

I have lost 4 pounds since January, which is disappointing, but I have lost 9 & 1/2 inches which I love!!

I wasn't eating by calories when I started, but was reducing my portion sizes from king size to more normal sized! I then tried 1200 calories and gained and maintained. I am now working on 1400-1800 per day, finding it a struggle as it's a lot for me to eat!! Sticking to it. I use myfitnesspal to count the calories for me.

I hope you enjoy the forum.. it can be addictive!! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
