So, day one and all went well. Came in at 1450 calories and was pleased with the healthy, filling choices I made. Went for a walk but although it only came in at 4500 steps, it did include the equivalent of 17 flights of stairs. We live in a very hilly village! Waiting for my first fitness tracker to arrive. When doing the 10,000 step challenge does it include all steps or just those done on a walk? Going to try and post daily in an attempt to keep motivated. Off to dismantle Christmas now and put in attic until December.

Day One
Good for you, PLC, but don't be tempted to cut your calories too low. Check your personal allowance on the NHS BMI calculator and eat as much as you can, while still losing weight, as there will be plenty of time to reduce, as you lose weight
Why not be sociable and do your chatting on the What's Happening Today thread?
Thank you for the advice. I got the recommended calorie intake from MyFitnessPal. I’ll have a look at the nhs site. Don’t want to make the mistake I always make of cutting down too much at first then getting fed up. I want this to be a lifestyle change where I also lose weight 😁
Hi me again. Just checked the NHS site and for my BMI it says I should have between approximately 1600 and 2000 calories a day. Would this have an effect on weight loss? What would you recommend I have per day? X
Your range is similar to mine. I usually aim for 1600-1700, but will confess that I have been known to go up to the higher limit sometimes. I find if I average out in the middle of the range (over a week) I will lose 1-2lbs/week.
Good luck!
Sounds like a brilliant start - with the 10k steps, it's really up to you. I just keep mine on all day, but if you wanted to only measure walks done during planned walks, you could do that too.
