I'm a bit tired of trying all sorts of diets that work for a couple of months, and after I regain all my weight. I'm completely lost and start to get desperate.

Any help would be welcome

thanks

Hello Nanaya and welcome to the forum :)

This is going to sound like stating the obvious but the best diet is one you can stick to, for life. That means it needs to have enough variety to interest you, and it needs to leave you feeling well fed, not "starving". It can't be a short term project.

It needs to be healthy, too, so that means real food, home cooked, so you know what you're eating. Have a look at this plan based on real food: it's something you can adapt to your own tastes phcuk.org/wp-content/upload...

You'll find our members follow different plans so I suggest you have a good look around the forum, particularly posts like the Daily Diary and Springers Specials, for ideas. Everyone will be happy to answer your questions and they'll welcome your encouragement, too - we all appreciate a bit of encouragement.

You'll find the posts I mention, and all our other regular posts, by following this link healthunlocked.com/weight-l... Check them out and join in as much as you can :)

Welcome. Yes absolutely agree with Bridgegirl about eating well and learning not to think of it as being on a diet but a healthy eating plan for life. That doesn’t mean no treats or meals out but if your ’diet’ is balanced, healthy and ’sensible’ 90 percent of the time you can afford to have those extras from time to time. Plenty of support on here especially if you join in.

This is probably not very helpful but I must say that the low-carb diet that my doctor placed me on has resulted in significant weight loss (nearly 4 stones in 8 months). Having said that, I have had to give up many of the things that I previously enjoyed - mainly sugary foods, and anything flour, potato or rice-based. That puts things like pizzas, french fries or burgers (well, the buns anyway) on the banned list. I have managed to stay with it so far because the incentive was to avoid diabetes. The doctor's expression was something along the lines of, 'I'm afraid it's low-carb or shorten your life significantly..' That did it for me.

However, I know we all have different needs/lives. So, although meals are less fun these days (although I discovered that with care and planning, they can still be tasty), I am significantly slimmer, I have nice new clothes and I get compliments!

Hi. I have been keeping a eye out for way to lose weight long term for a number of years. one way is to join over eaters anonymous and following thier programme. I met lots of people there who have lost weight and kept it off for 20 plus years in OA. This doesnt suit me anymore, it doesnst suit every one so I have used intermittant fasting as I have met people who have lost weight and kept it off doing this, fasting twice a week. I lost about nine stone fasting twice a week. I would not recommend fasting everyday as you body gets used to this and you reach a platoux. I have now stopped the fasting as I over did it a couple of times and started to binge and am doing the over eaters anonymous thing of three moderate meals a day, no refined sugar. I write down what I am going to eat first thing in the morning and I have to say some prayers if I need to deviate. It seems to work for me as I have lost 5 or so pounds in a couple of weeks. Some people on here have told me they have lost weight and kept ot off doing keto but I have heard other people say it is hard to stick to. It has takne me about 3 years to lose the nine stone but I know I am eating in ways that are sustainable long term and I would much rather lose weight slowly, with no gimicy diets and keep it off than lose weight fast and pile it all back on again.

Nanaya, I don't have much to add to Bridgegirl's excellent advice, but, and I have received and hated this same advice in the past several, but the why really matters - your why really matters. Creating sustainable change is hard and having the durable motivation to see it through is important. Have you watched or read Simon Sinek's Ted Talk on Why? youtu.be/u4ZoJKF_VuA?featur...
