Welcome survivor.

Here you will meet people who do many different things. I’m a pescetarian myself, but that in itself isn’t a weight loss thing, it’s just how I prefer to eat.

To lose weight I am currently trying intermittent fasting meaning I only eat in an 8 hour window from 12.00 to 20.00. I eat lots of veggies, especially cabbage, and make sure there’s enough protein and healthy fats in my food. I reduce carbs but don’t cut them out entirely. It seems to be working well for me.

I have tried many different approaches to weight loss and find that most are working for as long as I am able to keep it up.

So I guess whatever works for you in the long run is the right approach for you.

And as TabbyCat says, being active on the forum - giving and receiving support and advice- is vey helpful.

See you around.

Welcome!! I think just by taking this first, courageous step you have done something great already.

My advice is to make small changes over time that will help contribute to a shift in mindset and lifestyle. I believe that sustainable weight loss comes from facing the challenges that created the problem in the first place. If you are an emotional eater, focusing on building self belief and changing habits can benefit you greatly for the long term.

In terms of an eating method, what is your current diet like? Rather than make a radical change that may be hard to maintain, look for some "smart swaps", by replacing some of the most calorie dense foods for lighter options. Perhaps if you snack on processed foods like chips and candys, maybe swap them out for something more nutritious?

Feel free to share more about your plan and I'd be happy to try and help!

I wasn’t eating much fat so for about 3 months I stopped all dairy products, most carbohydrate and all big meals. I have developed kidney stones possibly because of such a protein based diet or perhaps the absence of calcium (we need some calcium to get rid of certain amino acids through the kidneys). I was also taking Metformin and Aspirin both of which have a tendency to increase stone formation. It may be clearer when the stones are taken out. Thus I think my method was not ideal. However it did work to reduce my weight by 2 1/2 stone and so far I have kept it down. I now drink milk in tea and have one brown roll each day. I still have to restrict my diet a lot to keep the weight down and I feel I don’t yet have a really good method.

I can't do restrictions for very long but I know if I don't buy it then I can't eat it . Simply 3 decent meals a day . Fruit , veg , cut out snacks and processed foods . Brown bread , pasta and rice . I vary the protein - I have cut out red meat . I eat full fat cottage cheese but no hard cheeses. Odd glass of wine , milky coffee and now I maintain as my body has got used to this food .

Weight loss now means exercise . Walking , Zumba , swimming as I find it almost impossible to shed any weight with what I am eating which works health wise as I am rarely ill , take no medication and aged 63 I still work in a fairly manual job and feel my stamina is acceptable . I try not to eat after 8pm but sometimes my social life gets in the way but any other time I tend not to overthink . My method really is think what I buy . Plan a few meals but buy a few supermarket offers . Sip an instant low cal hot chocolate as made with boiling water it lasts ages and by the time you have drunk it those thoughts about other snacks have been rewarded . Feeling like walking to the cupboard then coat on , round the block .
