Water Weight.
Hi Lincsguy33, we are not medical professionals on this site so any answers you get will be from experience only.
My understanding of water weight isn't something that you would have surgery for unless its in one specific area that could be drained off. Its water stored by your body between your organs and skin. A quick search on google gives these ways to reduce water weight, i hope they are helpful..
Ways to get rid of water weight include:
Drinking more water.
Avoiding super salty and sugary foods.
Exercising regularly.
Eating hydrating foods.
Reducing carbohydrates.
Trying supplements or water pills.
Improving your sleep.
Decreasing stress.

If you have a serious medical condition your GP would have followed up on it. It is so easy to look for the easy way to lose weight, but there is only so much water a body can hold. often being overweight can cause fluid retention. It is mnot healthy to be overweight. The only way to lose weight and most importantly to maintain a healthy weight is to eat less than our body needs. It is not easy. I have done it. I was 17 stones at my maximum in my 20's I lost all the excess weight by calorie counting and stayed at a healthy weight ever since I worked for Slimming Magazine years ago running 2 of their groups. I noticed that I had perrenial slimmers, people would do really well then think that it will be OK to go back into their old eating habbits just for say, Christmas. Then they go back to old ways and sometimes even get bigger than they were.
Slimming magazine and other groups like Weight Watchers and Slimming World are making millions for their share holders, as they rarely work long term, because they promise losing weight is easy if you follow their programme. They give you recipes and say it is OK to have treats, They even sale Treats at their meetings. This encorages CRAVINGS, by causing a sugar surge that upsets our insulin balance.
I was always putting on a few pounds and havind to DIET to keep at a healthy weight, until 2007 when I discovered the GI diet. it was set up after Scientist trying to find a cure for type 2 diabetes recognised How refined sugars and refined Carbohydrates cause cravings. They found that eating in this way actually can take people with type 2 diabetes into remission . Their sugar levels dropped so low they no longer neede medication.T his was fantastic for me It took a while to give up processed Foods and drinks. I had to give up chocolate, cakes, biscuits, ice cream, pastries, white foods, honey, but I could eat vegetables, porridge ( not the ready, instant ones) eggs, wholemeal bread, tinned and unprocessed fresh fish, 2 portions of fruit per day. They advise new potatoes and sweet potatoes, but I find filling up my plate with boiled potatoes fills me up, without causing cravings. I have lean meats and fish, with lots of vegetables. Just small ammounts of cheese and fats.
The list is huge. the best way to succeed is to avoid processed foods, that is anything with a lable on it. Get back to basics the healthy foods. I am lucky I only drink hot water. water is what we need for hydration, but teas and coffee are Ok not the ones ladden with extras in coffee shops. Alchol has no nutrition, it is full of calories and rots your liver. soft drinks rot your teeth and again no food value.
This sounds harsh to someone like I used to be , when a huge Toblrone was somthing I could eat in one go. I loved Magnum ice creams. Now I no longer yo yo diet. and rarely get CRAVINGS, it took a while, but I hate the sickly taste of those foods that I used to love.
Try to stop thinking about food and drinks as treats. We need healthy food to be healthy. The GI Diet is good for losing weight, but for me it is a healthy way to live a healthy diet. This is how we ate after the war, when obesity was rare.
Think of pleasures that make you happy not fat. swimming, dancing, walking in the countryside, socialising with friends and family. having a foot massage, or a cuddle.
Best wishes
I found your post very helpful and thoughtful. Thank you.😊
Hello Aquinas
Are you on a weight journey yourself?
If so, we have a number of regular groups within Weight Loss Support (which is, as the title says, a VERY supportive forum). Have a look around the pinned posts, and do join in too, if you want to, you will be made very welcome.

Sending you this doesn't commit you to anything, just join in if you want to. I've added you as a "visitor" to the group for now, but we can change that if you want to take a more active part in the forum.

I had an operation 2 years ago on my left knee (replacement surgery) the epidural has agitated my back surgery left me in pain, knee replacement wasn’t a success I’m worse and have been on water tablets since with no explanation of why I’m retaining fluid,I tried for a week not taking them and my legs and feet were awful and when I took it the first day I lost 10lb and a further 7 the next few days,my weight has gone up by 3 an half stone since operation wish I never took it
Hi Mel03
Thanks for sharing your story.
As springersrule mentioned above, no one on Weight Loss Support posts in a professional capacity, but, like you have done, there are observations we can make, and it sounds like the issue here is one of water retention not body fat.
If that’s not fully the case and you want to know more about what we have on offer, just reply here and we’ll be happy to provide more information 😊
hi I’d like to hear more information on weight loss, plus pain support
Yeah I know there’s no professionals on here but it’s good to know not alone in a situation of health matters
I think it is a discussion with your GP but I imagine with NHS backlog the wait would be lengthy and in that time there may be alternatives but this is personal as your medical issues may be complex . Check what you are eating - maybe a referral to a dietitian to eliminate allergies and focus on the nasties that are triggering your symptoms. Are you stressed as no surgery will help with this so look at gentle mindful exercise and list what is really bothering you and how you could improve your mood. Personally surgery is drastic and would it work long term. Surely your GP could suggest alternatives to medication or other therapeutic treatments to support the water retention.
