I'm not sure what you're aiming for but 140g of mango contains around 20g sugar.

Really I should not have eaten them!

It’s entirely your choice. You described it as a healthy snack. I googled “how many grams of sugar in 140grams of mango” and that was the answer. 20grams of sugar isn’t healthy by my understanding of ‘healthy’.

Wow 😱 It makes me think twice when I look at the amount of sugar in some foods.

Definitely! There are some 'infographics' here that could help us make better choices in everyday foods phcuk.org/sugar/

Hi Bluelady-sing

I just asked the Bing Chatbot whether your 140g mango was a healthy snack, and it replied:

"A 140g serving of mango is a healthy snack that provides 99 calories, 25g of carbohydrates, 2.6g of fiber, and 60mg of vitamin C1. Mangoes are also rich in antioxidants, such as vitamin A and E, that can help protect your cells from damage2. Mangoes are low in fat, sodium, and cholesterol, and have a low glycemic index of 512, which means they won’t spike your blood sugar too much. Enjoy your mango snack! 🥭"

I think I agree with the information there, and I would also enjoy a snack of some mango, if I fancied it. I might add a few nuts as well perhaps. They would be scrumptious.

You got it from chat bot information.

I guess it's healthier than chocolate

Hi Bluelady-sing

Personally, I think some dark chocolate as a snack is also a nice choice for a snack. There are some nutritional benefits to both mango and chocolate.

Actually some mango with chocolate would be divine in my opinion. :-)

this "snack" equates to the break down of 6 teaspoons of sugar entering your liver and digestive system, sugar does tremendous damage to cells. This snack is 99 calories of sugar , since it contains no fat or protein. If you are concerned with vitamins and fat and sodium and fiber, eat vegetables they have significantly less carbohydrate.

As you say Bluelady it's healthier than chocolate so I guess if you really need a snack it wd be better than reaching for the crisps or as in my case the little snack bag of sweet n salty popcorn. At least the mango gives you lots of other stuff as well despite the sugar level. Must say, my mouth watered when I looked at the pic 😀

Hi Bluelady-Sing. This is an interesting thread. You must of course decide for yourself what healthy means but I find the replies interesting so I’m replying to some of the replies.

Someone above mentions GI, but GL (Glycemic load) is also really important i.e. focussing on the overall amount of sugar rather than just the speed at which it’s (on average) released.

Mango might be an ok choice on a micronutrient level but not so much on a macronutrient level if the aim is weight loss.

In terms of the comparison to chocolate, that completely depends on what sort of chocolate you mean I guess. Processed nasty stuff like dairy milk is arguably much worse than the mango on all levels but if you go for a very high cocoa percentage chocolate from a “bean to bar” chocolatier (meaning not highly processed), you might find you’re better off with the chocolate snack. I eat 100% cocoa chocolate, it’s an acquired taste but it’s a pretty healthy snack compared to mango IMO. Chocolate, without the sugar, processed milk power, vegetable oil and other crap that tends to be added to it, is very rich in antioxidants and other important stuff as far as I have read.

I can’t resist a debate about chocolate ☺️
