I decided last year to try to be in the best shape possible for being 70 in two years time. None of my clothes fit me properly anymore - since I retired in 2016 I’ve gained about 28lbs. I bought a bike and joined the local cycling club and I’m fitter but fatter! I seem to put on weight without any real change to my diet. Is it my metabolism? Does it slow to the extent that even after a ride of 50 miles I find I haven’t lost 1lb!! I’d really like to lose weight I don’t want to buy bigger clothes 🫤

Hi Megamags
Welcome back, and congratulations for making the vow to wow when you reach 70. It’s a great approach and definitely better than the “oops, I’ve got a wedding in 3 days, can I lose a stone” approach.
Well done too on your exercise regime. Having said that, I have read that it’s what you eat that makes the biggest impact on your weight, although exercise is really important for health generally, and wellbeing of course.
Joining in with the groups here, especially with the Daily Diary where menus and plans are shared might be exactly what you’ve been looking for.
I’ve added a link to all the groups we currently have running so you can have a browse through. Do give us a shout if you need any more information or get stuck, but many have found that getting stuck in and sharing the peer support has been the key to success - good luck and I hope to see you in the groups 😊
