Hi WMEL,I am relatively new to HU myself. I too wish to lose weight and we are similar in age. Have you heard of Dr Gregor's Daily Dozen or 21 Tweaks? I am interested in following this 'checklist' eating plan. How much are you looking to lose?
Good morning VeganMoonBeam and welcome to our forum. If you follow the link given to WalkMoreEastLess above and join in we'll be happy to help you on your weight loss journey too.
I haven't heard of Dr Gregor, but have had a quick look and agree its good to get a variety of "greens" in to our plans and who doesn't love a tweak lol
All the best xx
Hi. I'd not heard of the tweaks or Dr G before so I had a very quick look and will look again later. Actually this morning I had already decided that I had 10 areas that I want to work on. I also changed my user name today from WalkMoreEatLess to RoomForImprovement as I wanted a name that would still be relevant on here once I've reached goal weight and to reflect the fact that it is an ongoing journey/transformation. I weighed 17 st 2.5 today and would like to get into the healthy weight range so that puts me at about 6.5 stone to lose. Looking forward to getting to know you. Enjoy your day.
That's so ironic, RFI as I weigh nearly the same as you too. However, I really just want to get under 200lbs (14st). I've gotten down to 158 lbs (~11st) and it's simply too difficult to maintain... obviously. I downloaded the Dr Gregor's app and you simply check the box as you eat/drink/exercise as per his instruction. I planned to start last week, however emotional turmoil kicked in on an unrelated topic and stopped me in my tracks. Need to buy proper groceries so that I can move forward with this plan. Good luck and looking forward to connecting with you again. 😊
Buying proper groceries sounds like a good plan. Know what you mean about 11st being too hard to maintain, but being a healthy weight should be doable. I guess it's about being happy with an interim goal, and making more changes as and when you feel comfortable, and as the changes you've already made become more like who you really are, so that you can live without feeling like you failed all the time because you're trying to do something you really don't want to do? I'm not giving up on this! I want to be a heathy weight. I just need to make sure I don't undo all my good work by being too impatient to get too light too soon.
You sound committed, good for you! I lost 100 lbs in 2007/2008 in 9 months and 11 days, then a few more to get down to the 158 lbs. as mentioned earlier. I ate all food groups in tiny portions so I was always hungry--not all at sustainable. I understand being impatient! I know about throwing in the towel. I had/have negative emotional days when the scale didn't move in my favor. Our minds can be our best friend or worse enemy in a healthy lifestyle journey. Eating well, moving my body and reading wellness-type books are on my agenda. I read your "10 Improvements" and I'm right there with you. 👍
The scale can be a bit of a nuisance. Lose weight, ease up on your plan, gain weight, comfort eat. I need to take less notice of it and focus on doing the right thing, things that will make me healthy and happy
You go girl!

Welcome to this lovely forum! I joined at beginning of April! I have found these forums very supportive and helpful with lots tips!
Sugar is my crutch for feeling down! I used to have 3 sugars in tea coffee two bags of chocolate giant buttons per day!
As much as I didn’t like the taste to start with I changed for 1/2 a spoon of granular sweetener ( you will have to stick with it you do get used to it very quickly) ,in tea and level spoon in coffee! They also do a lot of cooking and baking range yes it is pricey but you don’t use as much and lasts longer!
Don’t buy cook in sauces ie sweet and sour they are full of sugar! Yes they are convenient but there are lots of recipes from scratch in 30mins! Key things to have to on hand is chopped tinned tomato tomato purée!
Change fizzy drinks change to zero or no added sugar! There are now loads of them shops own labels ones are just of good as the branded ones!
These changes helped me out as I was pre diabetic !
Walking is brilliant if you can go for walks in the countryside! You start to become aware of the things around you! Birdsong animals the changing seasons walk along a river it really calms your brain! Take some deep breath’s stop and take in a view !
I had been completely immobile for nearly two months! When I started walking my lower back hurt really started to ache within a few hundred yards but it will pass the more you do!
If you are a drinker swap larger for light beers or a gin and slimline!
I still struggle with chocolate and biscuits when I am down! I am now going to do some baking so I have something to hand!
I have now Joined C25K and I am going swimming today which I haven’t done for years hear in the Uk 🇬🇧
So good luck I hope some of this helps you get started!
Thanks begood! I have taken the jars of curry and pasta sauces off my shopping list today! Got tins of tomatoes in the cupboard. Been there for months. Time to actually use them!
