I have to loose weight and have done everything over the years. I went on the healthy helpings plan and I do think its a good eating healthy plan. so im determined to get started again as I lost the plot for a while and think this might help speaking to others on the same journey

The best way to lose weight is the 5:2 Diet, where you eat normally (sensibly) five days a week and you only eat 500 calories two non-consecutive days a week. It's free, it really does work and, what's more important, is that once you've lost the weight you want to (I lost three stone in six months) you can keep it off by just fasting one day a week! It's actually much easier than you think it's going to be. I've never really liked eating breakfast as I find it makes me more hungry so I have a bowl of homemade soup for lunch and then maybe salmon or chicken and a huge pile of vegetables in the evening or one of the low calorie ready meals with some extra veg. Everyone is different and some choose to eat three small meals, some only one evening meal. Hunger doesn't get worse but goes in waves and you can usually settle it with a drink and then keep busy. I'd recommend Kate Harrison's book "The 5:2 Diet" and watching Michael Mosley's excellent Horizon programme that started it off, "Eat, Fast and Live Longer" (vimeo.com/54089463) and this great little video thefastdiet.co.uk/the-fast-....
I use a great little free app called MyFitnessPal for counting calories - you can even scan in bar codes. There are some good Facebook groups for motivation too. Good luck - I wish you every success!

Hi gingernut can you help me with my first day of not eating much. what do you eat on these days? You have done so well on this diet so id like to try it but I haven't got the book yet but I think its a good plan
When I was actively dieting I would have a bowl of homemade soup for lunch (or half of one of the big tubs of soup you can buy in the supermarkets such as Glorious Skinny) then the other half in the evening with a steamer bag of frozen vegetables stirred in. Other days I'd have chicken or salmon with a pile of vegetables. It is important to count every calorie on your fasting days so I use the free MyFitnessPal app - you can even read barcodes with it.

Morning I am new. This is day 2! Just getting familiar with the techicy stuff. Navigating around. Just by counting what I eat and doing a bit of walking I feel so much better. Lost 2lb too! Good luck on your journey..x
