What can I do?

OK so it's like this I've been on many diets ect and many years ago I did lose 6st but then my now ex husband decided to go with my best friend ( no more said about that). Anyway I'm now at a stage where I need to lose at least 12 stone maybe more . Problem is most of the time I can't stand up long to cook as I'm not very well. I need all the help I can get to get ideas exc. I will say I'm not much into vegetables or much fruit which makes it more difficult and most days I only eat 1 meal a day and that's usually about 8pm . But I do have a sweet tooth and sometimes this does get the better of me and I can eat a lot of sweet things when this happens and it will last a few days. Does anyone have any ideas please

Welcome back, Purpleuniverse :)

Just a few ideas off the top of my head, that may help:

Don't dwell on the total amount of weight you need to lose, concentrate on finding a routine that's sustainable for you, then celebrate every ounce that goes, as it means you're heading in the right direction.

Reread the information that 'spoke' to you the last time you were here healthunlocked.com/weight-l...

Consider speaking to your GP about the drugs that you're taking that may have weight gain as a side-effect, eg steroids

Consider bulk cooking using a slow cooker/steamer/microwave/air fryer/pressure cooker to cut down on cooking time.

Try different methods for preparing veg, that may make them more palatable to you and use pre-prepared/frozen to cut down on prep time and standing.

Remove all highly processed foods from the house, especially sugar filled items.

Eating 1 meal a day isn't a problem, as long as you're not binge eating because you're hungry, or because the foods you're eating are highly processed - white bread/potatoes/pasta/rice/sugary cereals etc. Try to eat earlier in the day, if possible.

Join in with everything that's going on here, it will keep you focused and inspired.

As a reminder, all of the information you need about the forum can be found in Pinned Posts healthunlocked.com/weight-l... and we hope you'll be joining all the Events, Challenges and Clubs that we run, especially the weigh-in and daily diary.

Wishing you all the best :)

Hello Purpleuniverse

I thoroughly sympathise and know what it feels like to be too unwell to stand and do anything in the kitchen. Those of normal weight, who dole out their advice, don't know the half of it. My recommendation to you is to get onto The New You Plan, who are based in Belfast, Northern Ireland. They are at thenewyouplan.com .I cannot recommend them highly enough, and I mean that with all sincerity! You WILL lose weight and I turned to them when I was bordering on the desperate with regard to my weight. Their system is Total Food Replacement (TFR). Many grossly and morbidly obese people have lost weight with their products. You would start off with eating/drinking 5 of their products per day if your starting weight is 17st or above. Otherwise 4 products. The products are soups, shakes, meals, bars and snacks, all of which are detailed on their website. You also have to drink 2 or 3 litres of water a day and you are allowed 250ml of skimmed milk daily to use in tea and coffee. That gives you the broad outline but do get on to them asap. You are putting your health and life in danger by being so heavy. The NYP totals around 600-800 calories daily and I have felt very well on it. It's lovely not to have to think about what to cook for meals - something which can make one feel very anxious I find. I've never seen New You Plan advertised anywhere and discovered it by internet search and am I glad I did! So far I've lost 4st 3lb since February this year. The heavier you are the quicker you will lose, especially in the early stages. They are on Facebook as well. The cost of the products (which come as sachets containing dried ingredients) varies between approx. £1 and £1.99 each and they have deals for bundles and so forth. DO GET ONTO THEM ASAP, you won't regret it! Good luck for your future success!😀

It's good to hear that you've found something that works for you but there are other options, including for members who have a lot to lose.

Maybe springersrule will be able to drop in with her experience and here are some others, all of whom lost weight while eating real food

I'm trying to help that poor lady, not confuse her! She doesn't want to spend time cooking and standing in a kitchen and needs to lose weight quickly. Having too many options is confusing. No two obese people are the same and the causes of obesity also vary in different sufferers, so I stand by what I've said.

600-800 calories a day is crazy and I respectfully agree to disagree.

I agree with LostMyWay. Extremely low calorie plans adversely affect your metabolism causing further weight gain in a shorter time span when you stop the plan you are following. Also these plans do not address the root causes of a persons weight gain.

Also anyone charging you money to lose weight is a business and is there only to make money and to keep people in the never ending cycle of lose-gain-lose. If all their customers lost weight permanently then they’d be out of business! They specialise in short term loss but then people inevitably gain again and need to keep paying them money.

Check out MyFitnessPal app. This is free and will set you a sensible amount of calories without having to starve yourself and make yourself miserable. Then you have the freedom to eat nutritious food within your allowance. Only you can decide if it’s for you but it does give you flexibility in terms of what you’re eating.

I have tried quick fixes before and they always lead to reverting back to old habits because they are totally unsustainable long term

Me too, you're totally right, out of desperation we live in hope and they profit from it ! X

Wow you've lost 6 stone in the past so you really know how to do this, its just about getting your head in the right place not letting anything side track you and being determined. There is good advice on here. I wouldn't go down the drinks and shakes route because you can't sustain that. I'm also aware that having a poor diet can have an adverse effect on your bones which we ladies have to be careful of.  LostMyWay has recommended myfitnessplan which I use too for calorie counting. Healthunlocked is much better for support because everyone is really nice. If you want to view my food diary on myfitnesspal let me know and I will tell you how. I only cook one meal a day, I usually have cereal or toast for breakfast a cold lunch or soup and then cook in the evening. While I'm not a fan of ready meals they do have their place if you are struggling to prepare food and choose wisely. Hope you don't feel preached at. Good luck

I admire you honesty but if I was giving advise to anyone in my family I would ask them to steer away from a diet of milkshakes and bars . It ruins any social life and I would like to know how anyone can live on these .What happens when you give them up? I would retract my advice if even 50% of people kept all the weight off they lost . Could work as an incentive / trigger but you can have decent normal food for £1 per meal considering portion control etc .

If I was faced with a table full of sachets and bars and told that 'this is your food for the month ' I would take my weight increase as total punishment .It shouldn't be seen ever as this . I would ask to see a practice nurse or GP . Get an eating plan and enjoy real food .
