I will be 8 months quit smoking tomorrow, which I know is the best thing for my health as I have COPD and breathlessness issues. The problem I have now is I'm about 3 stone heavier which is also not good for my health, and I just don't know where to start. I feel like I've lost control I'm craving sweet things all the time and I eat way more than I should. I was walking daily to help strengthen my heart and lungs doing at least 8000 steps daily, but now I'm not even managing 4000 steps I'm sure it's all the extra weight. I just don't know what to do i feel so down at the moment. Im female 55yrs 4ft 11 and desperate to lose weight. 😭

Hello Jake25 and welcome to the weight loss forum. Firstly super well done for ditching the smokes. I quit 3+ years ago now and managed to put 10+ Kg on. In the last year I've managed to lose 12+ Kg. I started by counting calories and then moved on to a Low Carb way of life. I suggest that you have a good look around and choose a plan which will be sustainable for you.

Please have a good read of the Pinned Post “Welcome Newbies”.

This is a very large community with lots going on. May I suggest you use the webpage as opposed to the app at least until you know your way around. Take your time and follow every thread so that you know exactly what’s going on.

Here’s the link for a “Tour” of the forum ,if you haven’t already taken it.

If you decide to follow the NHS plan please check your BMI on the NHS site and obtain the correct amount of calories for you.

The Daily Diary and the Weekly Weigh ins are very good places to begin. You will find the DD and WI in the Pinned Posts

I find the Daily Diary a very good place to share my plans and get inspiration from other members, too. Once the day’s food is written down I’m far more likely to stay on track.

The key to success is participation, we are all on the same journey.

If you can’t find something just shout, there’s usually someone around.

I hope to “see” you around, Good Luck.🍀😉

Hi Jake25. Sorry you feel so down. Have you been shielding or otherwise lying low since covid?

I feel very vulnerable since restrictions begun to lift. I have a number of chronic conditions and, whilst I eadn't shielding, lifting restrictions has made me feel really down.

Any way I'm pleased to meet you. The Daily diary is always a good place to meet people.maybe see you there in the near future.

Hi MitzyYeah I shielded but I'm OK about things being lifted now. I'm about to start a new job soon even though I struggle at times with my breathing I decided I don't want to be on benefits. I just feel I let myself go and I've got no control. I was a size 8 and now I'm a 14 I feel pretty disgusted with myself and don't know where to start. Hopefully I can get tips from here.

Thankyou for your reply reply nice to talk to you too.

Hello Jake25, welcome to our friendly community. It's by far the best place for support and encouragement, what's more, nobody will judge you. You have no need to feel disgusted with yourself, giving up smoking is not easy and with all the lockdowns and having to shield - well that hasn't helped anyone.

I'm sorry you feel so down but consider the positive things you are doing; stopping smoking, getting a new job because you want to pay your own way, and now doing something about your weight. The daily diary and a weekly weigh in will benefit you enormously. There is plenty going on here and you will meet a great bunch of people who help to make weight loss fun, rather than a chore.

Good luck with your weight loss journey and my very best wishes to you.
