Hi tigerjuz86 and welcome to this amazing forum.

I suggest you spend some time clicking about to find your way around. It's easier if you have a lap-top as there are several threads. If you’re using another device I strongly suggest that you use the web page as opposed to the app at least until you know your way around.

Have a good read of the pinned post “Welcome Newbies” and follow every thread.

Here’s the link to the pinned posts where you'll find lots of useful information.

Here’s the link for the “Tour” of the forum. If you haven’t already taken it.

I strongly suggest you read and contribute to the Daily Diary and participate in a Weekly Weigh in.

You will find there's loads of tips about better eating, from other members. Sharing your daily menu not only helps you stay committed, it can help other members too.

Good luck I hope to "see " you around.

First off ... just bear in mind that you can't be "diagnosed with high cholesterol", because "high cholesterol" isn't a disease. At best, raised total cholesterol is a diagnostic marker for an underlying disease process known as Metabolic Syndrome (although not a very reliable one). If you have some combination of obesity, blood-sugar dysregulation, atherosclerosis, and high blood pressure, then raised cholesterol can add weight to a diagnosis of Metabolic Syndrome. But by itself, it doesn't mean much.

Metabolic Syndrome is caused by a diet containing far too many carbohydrates, particularly processed carbohydrates such as white bread, cakes/biscuits, white rice, breakfast cereals, sugary drinks, and similar. Unfortunately the modern British (and American) diet is loaded up with wheat, corn, soy, and sugar, which makes processed carbohydrates the default choice for many of us. Those things also form the basis of most animal feeds.

Fortunately it's pretty simple to back away from this situation: just make sure you've got a wide assortment of vegetables on your plate (preferably colourful, non-starchy ones), and add meat/eggs/dairy according to your tastes. Don't be afraid of things like cheese, butter, full-fat milk, and the fat on your meat: these things provide energy in the absence of starch, and they also slow down the digestive process, thus mitigating the enormous energy hit (which your body just isn't designed to cope with) that occurs when you eat starch in a low-fat context.

You might find this advice a bit odd, since it conflicts with the things you'll read in diet books. If you have doubts, all I can suggest is that you give it a try for a couple of months and then go back for a cholesterol test. You'll probably surprise yourself and your doctor. You might also want to google "Dr David Unwin", an NHS doctor who is leading the charge against metabolic diseases - you should be able to find details of the kind of meals he "prescribes" to his patients.

Ah Oki I have recently being diagnosed with high blood pressure so that does make sense , since this covid I got so scared to even go out to the shop so basically piled pounds on

I have switched to whole grains and soya and almond milk and eating more fish and nuts Which I not a fan of but getting used to them I am bad for rich tea biscuits 4 every morning with cuppa tea , Also started using hello fresh and Gousto and some the meals are amazing and all cooked from scratch which all I’ve ever really done is bolognese and curry’s but jars the worse thing is it’s so much cheaper from scratch in long run how I haven’t done it before I could kick myself

I will surely look him up it’s definitely different to what I’ve read up ,, thank you very interesting 😊 x

Hi tigerjuz86, welcome to this forum.I think you might find this link helpful.

health.harvard.edu/heart-he...

although not everybody will agree with all of it.

I have been taking statis for quite a while now. After I lost weight and started to exercise more the levels came down quite a bit and I stopped the medication, however hat to go back on it after last check up as it had gone backup. I suggest you try to be sensible with the a amount of cheese , butter and seafood you eat. I am not stopping them, but keeping an eye.

Have a look on the Topics post and find recipes, lots of good ones there. Also you might want to join the Daily Diary, to check out other people’s meal plans.

Good luck!🙋🏻‍♀️

Absolutely nothing wrong with the tinned food that I buy, frozen fish, fruit and vegetables are excellent. The frozen fish will be more fresh then what you would buy in your supermarket or fish monger, frozen fruit hold the same nutritional value as fresh fruit, I have several different varieties in my freezer all year round. The frozen vegetables also have the same nutritional value as the fresh, have always got a pack of frozen peas in the freezer but much prefer to buy fresh vegetables from my local market.

My cholesterol has alwas been a little bit high but my doctor said not worry about it and gave some pills that I never took, other doctors just simply ignored it.

High blood pressure is a different story and needs to be monitored, I can have very high blood pressure reading for weeks that worrying for someone of my age, and then it normal for weeks, that is a wonderful feeling .

There are some excellent videos on YouTube that will explain the ins and outs of high blood pressure..

Stress and anxiety plays a big part for me with it.
