MUSHROOMS What to do with them!

lucigret profile image
37 Replies

Inspired by Lytham and BridgeGirl ’s 30 Plant post, I went to a local Greengrocers yesterday to look for something different. One of the things I walked out with was a punnet of ‘fancy’ mushrooms. Having got them home , I’m not sure what to do with them.

I’m hoping you’re going to inspire me with some tasty suggestions 😁

I don't know what to do with them either but I'm jealous. I've never seen a mixed pack like that and it's a bit extravagant to but several different types just for me - and I haven't seen some of those.

Well that’s just not helpful BG! 😂I’m sorry to make you jealous. I’m hopeless with the names of the mushrooms.

I think you should allow yourself a little extravagance 😁

Wow, they look amazing! I love putting fancy mushrooms in a risotto, green Thai curry, stir fry. Or just frying a couple to add as a garnish to mushroom soup. I love mushrooms. 😅

Risotto is sounding good 😊

Nothing too fancy. Do something simple to show the flavour of the mushrooms- I don't know what exactly but think simple is best 😉

The vegetarian society have a superb ocean pie recipe. It uses different flavour and texture mushrooms. Also mushroom swarama is lovely too. When I made it I didn't bother with the kebab skewers, because the mushrooms kept falling off. I just put the mushrooms onion and marinade on a low heat on a baking tray ad put some foil over the top to stop them burning. Hope you find a good set of repcies.

There’s a really good mushroom and chestnut hot pot recipe in 800 cal book, we have it with green beans and cabbage. They do look lovely x

So here is my take on creamy mushrooms. Have to say Hubby and I prefer closed cup.

These fancy mushrooms had a different texture and the flavour was very mild.

Well, they look lovely but sorry to hear the taste didn't measure up so well.

My first choice for everyday mushrooms is chestnut as I find they have a bit more flavour :)

Never mind, at least we tried them, nothing ventured nothing gained. Yes they do have a stronger taste, I haven’t had any for a while.

Oh that's a shame, hopefully they at least brought interesting textures. :)

lucigret profile image

The texture was different. Some seemed a bit chewy, not what I expected!

I love the different textures, King Oyster are probably my favourite (they're not as mild either) but haven't had them in ages!

I love them, because they remind me of where i come from (Slovakia). I only make soup out of them though ☺️

lucigret profile image
lucigret in reply to sminka17

You’re a long way from home 😊. I think mushrooms grow in abundance in Slovakia, I see there is a very meaty one, Dubak.

Maybe I should get another couple of pack and turn them into soup, I do like a mushroom soup 😊

Yes, that's right. We went mushrooms picking every year with my family, my dad always has some dried mushrooms or home made jam from blueberries for me even now😀when I go home. I just do simple onion, garlic, mushrooms, bit of potato and add red lentils to thicken soup plus some stock. It's lovely 😊

Some happy memories there 😊. I’m sure your soup reminds you of home too. I think you have inspired me to make some 😊
