Just stopped

I started my weight loss in July and by Sept I had lost 2st, but since nothing it just stays the same no losses at all. Surely I don’t have to cut back to nothing.

Welcome. It's sounds like you've been doing really well but I think we can all understand the frustration when your body seems to stop cooperating. But cutting back to starvation level rarely works. Sometimes it can be that you're not eating enough or maybe you need to change the things you're eating rather than the quantities. It's difficult to offer any detailed suggestions without knowing what you're eating now.

Hi JuneMc19 & welcome to this amazing forum.Well done for that 2 stone loss!!

I suggest you spend some time clicking about to find your way around. It's easier if you have a lap-top as there are several threads. If you’re using another device I strongly suggest that you use the web page as opposed to the app at least until you know your way around.

As already mentioned cutting back doesn't always work. Maybe you need to look at what you are eating as opposed to how much you are eating.

Here's a link which may help you.

Have a good read of the pinned post “Welcome Newbies” and follow every thread.

Here’s the link to the pinned posts, healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Here’s the link for the “Tour” of the forum. If you haven’t already taken it.

I strongly suggest you read and contribute to the Daily Diary and participate in a Weekly Weigh in.

You will find there's loads of tips about better eating, from other members. Sharing your daily menu not only helps you stay committed, it can help other members too.

Good luck 🍀 I hope to "see " you around.

😉

No, you're right, you don't need to cut back to nothing: that will get you nowhere.

Are you calorie counting? It may well be that you have been eating too little. Check with the NHS BMI calculator for the correct range for you - it takes into account your age, height, weight and activity level.

Then you may need to start working on what you're eating, rather than how much. Follow the link TabbyCat has given you to Pinned Posts, go to the Daily Diary and have a look through other members' meal plans. That may give you some ideas :)

What plan are you following? If it’s calorie counting, how many calories are you sticking to a day? You may find that you’re actually under eating and may need to raise your calories and increase your protein but reduce your carbohydrates a little. Feel free to message me :)

If this helps, Identify your weight loss goal and to achieve that I believe that you need to accomplish two things:

1) Speed up your metabolism by ideally following a vegetarian diet, fruit and vegetables are digested more efficiently by the body.

2) Burn more calories than you consume. A sustainably target for weight loss is a net Calorie deficit of about 200 Calories per day. In my opinion the easiest way to burn calories is through a low to mid intensity run. Start with 1mile and gradually increase your distance to a level you are comfortable with and which meets your fitness goals.

I would aim for 5 days of light running with 2 rest days in any 7 day period.

I trust this helps.

Thank you so much for your advice, sadly at 67 and a few health issues running is not something I can do, I do keep active and do light exercise as well as walking and gardening. I have been allowing myself 1400 calories a day, with a few treats within the 1400. A friend was on 1600 and no exercise at all due to health issues and has lost 4 at so far, so you can see why I am frustrated.

Hi June! I can see how it is frustrating (we've all been there!) especially when you compare yourself to your friend. However, everyone is different - she may have higher metabolism/eat different food within her calorie allowance etc etc. It may be worth you looking at how your 1400 calories are made up. You may be eating more carbs (some 'hidden') than you realise. A lot of people on here have used the LCHF - Low Carb High (Healthy) Fat - approach to achieve significant weight loss. I also find this helps me, as I don't metabolise carbs well at all with a thyroid condition I have. So, for example, for breakfast I would have either eggs or a full-fat Greek yogurt with berries. Compare this to what people are often told to eat on a classic 'slimming diet', say fruit juice, cornflakes with skimmed milk, and maybe a low-fat (high sugar!) fruit yogurt. That is much higher in carbs and less satisfying than what I have. There are plenty of ideas and recipes on here to help you.
