Hello everyone, I’ve been struggling with my weight for many many years now.
I seem to be lost of where to start and how to start. I need help with making choices.
Many recipes out there but they overwhelm me therefore I’m still struggling with starting. I eat healthy food but I still have the unhealthy snacks. And maybe my portions are too big.
I make really delicious healthy recipes but my snacking is the problem. If there is anyone who has been in this situation before please help.
Thank you,
Amber

Many of us have arrived here saying the same as you. The thing to remember is, if you always do what you have always done, you will always have the same results. So firstly you must change the way you do things. If you have a snacking problem, then remove all temptation from the house. You will be doing others in the household a favour as well. If you really can't do that, then rearrange the cupboards so that you have a space for you and don't have to go into the cupboard with all that temptation.
Planning is really important, write yourself a menu for the week and only shop for the food that is needed. Many of us find that committing a plan to paper really helps to keep us focused. Better still write a plan and then come to the Daily Diary each day and share your menu with us.
Start by using a smaller plate and having smaller portions, cutting out the snacks and planning. Add some healthy fats into your eating plan, these will keep you full for longer and the snacking won't be needed. Take some time to read around the forum and see what others are doing, the forum members follow many different plans. You will find that many are following Low Carb Health Fats. This is an easy way as there is no counting involved and lowering your white carb intake will stop the craving for snacks. I know this journey can be overwhelming, but it can also be really enjoyable
If you decide to follow calorie counting then please use the NHS BMI calculator to calculate your own personal calorie range and start at the top end.
The Daily Diary is the go to place here to see what others are eating and to find some inspiration. It is also the place to find advice. Again many of us come here thinking we are eating healthily and when we start to put our meals in the diary and see what others are doing, we realise there are many tweaks that we could make that will help.
Here is a link to the Pinned Posts where you will find a link to the Daily Diary. Please take the time to read all of the posts, especially the Welcome Newbie post, this will help you to navigate the forum, which is best done using the full website and not the app.
Participation is key to success and I would recommend that you at least join the Daily Diary and a Weigh In day of your choice.
Please also take a look at all of the Challenges, Clubs and Events that we have, to help to keep you motivated and engaged with the forum.

Hi Ambber, I was a snacker too but 50/50 on the healthy food. I started the nhs 12 week plan (now in week 12) but made tweaks to it so its just the healthy foods i like. I also watched loads of utube videos on different diets and healthy eating plans and picked out the bits that i thought would work for me. The end result for my eating plan is low carbs, homemade soup and mixing bowls full of salad with some meat and fruit in. Some fats are high, like cheese, but then for yoghurts i go lowfat. The quantity of food i eat means i havent actually felt hungry at all on this journey and i experiment with flavours and combinations of foods (not something i did before).
A typical day for me is
Breakfast: mushrooms and cheese on toast (a warburtons Thin)
Lunch: homemade soup - currently carrot and ginger
Tea: big bowl of salad- yesterday was lettuce, cucumber, spring onions, cherry tomatoes and a dessert spoon of philly cheese. Then added 2 boiled eggs, 2 grilled bacon medallions and loads of microwaved mushrooms.
This time around is the first time i have consistently lost weight every week (so far) and i so enjoy making my meals and eating them 😁.
My advice is make a few good changes then review, get lots of information on healthy eating and work out what will work well for you. I've never done low carb before as i love jacket potatoes and pasta but i have totally cut them out. The mixing bowl of salad idea came from a video i watched on intermittent fasting and i thought lets try that to help combat the snacking and that has worked for me too.
I swapped my carbs rather than cutting them out so sweet potato instead of white potatoes and wholegrain rice instead of white rice and that worked for me 🙂
