I am 50, peri-menopause, hypothyroid (taking 75mcg a day) and fed up. ๐ 3 yrs ago I managed to loose 2 &a half stone following SW. Since then ive managed to keep it off...up until literally 6mths ago. A pound here n there slowly creeping bk on, but literally with every few days now another pound is on. Ive followed SW, WW, calorie counting- eating between 1000-1200 cals a day.. and STILL i put weight on. I dont go to the gym, but i do walk around 10,000 steps a day. Can anyone help pls???

Hi there, I can really understand how miserable you must be feeling, upsetting when you are trying so hard. As a thousand calories doesnโt seem a lot would it be worth speaking to your GP about your thyroid, may be a quick call to see if it could be your thyroid stopping you loosing weight. Perhaps you need your thyroid medication tweaked as your body is going through a lot of changes. I do think it gets harder the older you get however it is possible to loose weight we all just has to find what helps us. Iโm sure with help and support you will start to loose again. Good luck!
I hope you get the help you need, if you are in a practice it can sometime help to switch appointment with another GP within the practice some are more sympathetic then others. Like one of the other posters posted could be worth arming yourself with information from the thyroid group. I wish you lots of luck๐ค๐ป
75mcg a day is a very low dose, so you're probably under medicated which will cause weight gain. I strongly advise you to join the Thyroid UK forum and post the results of your latest blood test. If you don't have them, ask at your surgery for them. The people on the forum are extremely knowledgeable and very helpful healthunlocked.com/thyroiduk
Being 'in range' is a meaningless term. Shoes sizes 3 to 9 are all in range, but if you're a size 9, then a size 3 isn't going to be much use to you. I suspect you'll need to have private blood tests done, to make sure that you have everything necessary checked. Medichecks do a Thyroid Thursday discount, so if you join the forum, someone will post a link
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4, TT4, FT3 plus TPO and TG thyroid antibodies. Plus vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12.
more or less following SW still. Im super sensible tbh. Plenty of fruit,veg...dont eat meat so quorn mince etc...porridge (weighed out)and fruit every morning....
only eat porridge as carbs- other than fruit/veg..dont really eat bread. Iccasionally have jacket pot with beans and salad. Might have to go down the move more route. ๐คฆโโ๏ธ sick of seeing people on a diet and weight "just dropping off them" and i get nowhere nearly killing myself to loose a damn pound!
Just a thought but I don't think it is the foods. I think it is your activity. We all know counting your steps is just a con anyway, but moving around will help you stay firm. I believe exercise is the key here, you might have to find the right exercise that works for you as different things work for different people.
That is quiet alright. I've been thinking for food have you tried counting the calories as it has worked for me as I lost 90 pounds? Just so you know normal bread is really good for you as it is full of goodness as it has vitamins and minerals and fiber. So you really shouldn't be cutting it out completely, it all comes down to moderation.
