Thankyou to all the people who responded to my post....

But all I want to do is count my calories each day. On a piece of paper with a pen or pencil!

Good luck to everyone!

You certainly sparked a healthy debate, but of course you should do what works for you.

Best of success with the counting and your weight-loss journey. 😄

Pen and paper will work too 😊

If you ever get stuck not knowing how many calories are in certain foods, there are many websites that would help. A few of them below:

nutracheck.co.uk/CaloriesIn/

nhs.uk/live-well/healthy-we...

webmd.com/diet/healthtool-f...

caloriecontrol.org/healthy-...

Maybe you could get one of the books detailing that information. Most booksellers seem to have them. Or you could google the nutritional values of your main foods/drinks and build a list as you go along.

From all the replies to you other post you will see that focus has, I would say, in the main shifted away from pure calorie counting as it has been recognised that not all calories are equal. There were some very interesting and informative replies so thank you for asking the question.

Also just came across this, list and simple - maybe it will be helpful:

That's the one I posted in reply to the first question what seems like a long time ago now. Good choice.

Oh yes, you are right, I did click to open but somehow my browser didn’t like it at that point, so I hadn’t realised it was the same thing. Thanks for pointing it out!

There's no problem in that 👍good luck with your weightloss plan , lots of people here have followed that plan 🙂

I use a notebook and pen too, I don’t need to track as closely these days (I’m maintaining) but I still plan and write out my food diary. 😊

If you don't like the list above, buy a book. There are several if you follow this link amazon.co.uk/Carbs-Pocket-C... but to be honest you can get an app which is more comprehensive and easier to use plus it won't cost anything. I'm not endorsing calorie counting, I feel Low Carb High Fat is much easier to follow and can easily be a lifestyle change which is easy to follow in the maintenance phase but in the end it's whatever you are comfortable with and works for you. N-o-r-d-i seems to thrive on calorie counting @ 45kg lost.

I used a brilliant book a few years back, called the Calorie, Carb, Fat Bible. I found it really useful and straightforward.

It has basic foods and produce listed, as well as labelled goods. From memory it is designed for use in the UK. Here is a link for it... but of course there are other books, and other booksellers available!

Good luck. I hope you find something useful :-)

Hello face2face

Do you mean you want to know how many calories in the foods that you normally eat, without having to go through long lists on websites?

If so, let us know what foods you normally eat, and we'll try to calculate roughly how many calories in the foods?

Sorry if I have misunderstood :)

When I was calorie counting, I bought a notebook and had different pages for meat and fish, dairy, veg, fruit etc. For each item, as I came to it, I googled "calories in 100g of X" and added it to my notebook. It built up quite quickly for all the usual things I ate.

I also worked out the calories in regular meals that I had and kept that in my notebook.

I found that more useful than having a great long list of items that I rarely, if ever, use
