I’m looking at starting to get healthy and lose some weight, I use to go running to help me lose weight but I suffer from bad knees now! Can anyone recommend an activity I can do without going to the gym?

I like this one, it's low impact for my dodgy knees !

Hello and welcome to the Weigh Loss Forum Macca83

Exercise has many benefits but only has minimal effect on weight loss. What you eat is far more important. However, if you google low-impact exercise you’ll get some suggestions, you may also like the Active10 App which records your walking, and breaks it down into brisk and not so brisk. You may also like Nordic Walking which is easier on the knees.

If you haven’t already then please read the Welcome Message in Pinned Posts here healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... Please read it carefully so you can find all the information you need to find your way around the forum.

As a peer to peer support group we rely totally upon mutual encouragement. Nothing beats joining in, reading posts and replying to others. Our Group Weigh-in and the Daily Diary are probably the best places to start

Best wishes

Indigo 😊

I too have a dodgy knee and hip but find Leslie Sansone Walking videos on YouTube really good. All low impact and there are a range of different ones from 1 mile walk taking about 15 mins to ones that take 45 mins. They all involve four basic steps and are done in a very small space- the whole idea is to do in front of TV.

There are also tons of videos for increasing fitness where you can do it sitting down. Just try googling.

I always find it helpful to watch the fitness videos first to see if they are suitable.

I agree with Indigoblue61 that exercise will not shift weight but if you are like me weight loss and exercise are all part of the plan to leading a healthier lifestyle.

Good luck.

Try the SIT rather than the HIIT.
