Hi all, tomorrow will be my start day for nhs 12 weeks weight loss plan....been doing slimming world but got bored lol....also I I think I was eating too many 'free'foods which slows the weight loss...calorie counting is really the only way I think. Do you?

Hello and welcome to the Weigh Loss Forum Tessababy1

I agree that some knowledge of calories is important, so we can start to better gauge portion size for instance, but not all calories are the same when it comes to health and nutrition, or how they act upon our hunger and appetite hormones, see here healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

If you haven’t already then please read the Welcome Message in Pinned Posts here healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... Please read it carefully so you can find all the information you need to find your way around the forum.

As a peer to peer support group we rely totally upon mutual encouragement. Nothing beats joining in, reading posts and replying to others. Our Group Weigh-in and the Daily Diary are probably the best places to start

Best wishes

Indigo 😊

I’m using calorie counting to make sure I’m not eating too much, as I still don’t trust myself to judge well how much I consume without counting. But I believe it’s more about the choices of foods, rather than calories themselves.

I completely agree with that!

I occasionally used calorie counting to 'spot check' my eating wile pursuing a Low Carb diet.

I'm not sure what a 'free' food is - I think the closest to that I eat is veggies, but I can't think of any other food that can just be magically eaten. 😊

Best success with your process.

'Free food on SW is pasta, rice, veg fruit, meats and fish ( all of which can be eaten in unmeasured quantities) so a mahoosive bowl of spaghetti bolognese would be classed as a free food!

Yes that's it

Wow. I've cut out pasta and rice almost entirely because of their impact on body fat, I struggle to understand how a diet that included them without limit would be anything other than a licence for permanent yo-yo dieting. 🤔

making money, ive become quite cynical 😉

Good grief!! Is SW not aware of how pasta and rice convert to sugar in the bloodstream before heading off to be stored as fat?

of course its aware, that is how they are a multi million pound industry, yoyo dieting, not good for either your body or your bank balance, but great for them 😡

Hello and welcome. I've started with calorie counting but after a few weeks I decided to include intermittent fasting and LCHF to my plan.

I can't explain how well they work for me. I hope you give them a try.

Have a lovely day.

A good choice in my view. LCHF has been central to my weight-loss and 14:10 TRE (IF) has been a useful step in avoiding the late night munchies. 😄

Hi Tessababy1. Plans that work, vary as much as we do. Sometimes a change does us good though. I did SW years ago when they did Red and Green days and found the green days an issue as it allowed for too much pasta etc. Perhaps try looking at replacing the carb based free foods on SW with veg and lean protein as a starting point.
