Hi I'm sally. Today is my first day on the nhs weight loss plan. My aim is to loose 2lbs per week. My short term goal is half stone down by mid may when I go on holiday for a week, which will be a challenge (hotel breakfasts eek). Realistically I think I'll gain a couple of pounds then, but my second goal is 1stone down by end of July when I go to legoland with the grandchildren. By the end of December I hope to have achieved my this years goal to have lost 1.5 stone leaving half s stone to go to reaching my total weight loss wish of 2stone. My sticking point has always been 14stone which is why, now I'm approaching the danger zone I've joined the weight loss community. Wish me luck 🤗

Hi SallyMJ well done for joining this site as it is very great and everybody tries to hugely support each other which is what manages to keep most of us going with our weightloss. One of the administrators will also write to you soon to give you further information about this site. Do make sure you check your bmi index on here as this will tell you what your calorie intake should be between. It is best to eat closer to the higher amount of calories because as you get on further you can lower your calorie amounts as you lose weight further. I re-check my bmi index every 6lbs of weight losses to see if my calorie intake has changed as this does change. Good luck with your journey

Thank you HubbysMissMouse. I've started with the suggested 1,400 but will check as suggested. Had an ok day. Just had my dinner and last snack f the day so early night for me 😬

I have been on the NHS 12 week weight loss programme though technically I am on my 15th week! I have kept (apart from the occasional blip) 1400 and plan to stay on that until I reach my target weight which should be in 1-2 weeks (only 1kg to loose) and then I will gradually increase to the recommended calorie intake for my height- lowest range was 1600 upto 1950ish, though can't really see me getting up to 1950!! Have you a target weight in mind?

Hi RG07. Yes, my target weight is 12.5 stone. I was that weight in my 20s and a size 10/12. I know that was 40 years ago now, but I'm going to try. I feel very unhealthy at this weight.😞

Hello SallyMJ and welcome.

The admins like to reply to all newbies but as they are so busy it can easily happen that they miss a post on occasion. Just tagging one of them Anna61 .

It's good that you have set yourself some goals to aim towards and they appear sensible and achievable. Just be aware that when you set yourself timescales it can be upsetting if we don't keep to them and with the best will in the world our bodies hardly ever do what we expect of them.

Good luck!

Thank you Tiggerr. I appreciate your comments. I've set the time scales to try to stop me "crash dieting" which I tend to do. Hopefully by having target dates quite a way along, I shall not feel pressured by myself to do yet another "slim fast" diet, which I cannot sustain.

Normally I'd countenance against them but you have set very realistic ones.

If you do manage 2lbs a week that will be good going. Generally, as you'll probably know, that is normally achievable in the short term but then your body slows down (its generally just what it does :( ). In my short experience, I lost 3lbs a week for the first 4 weeks and now its pretty much a pound if that and that's by sticking to the same lifestyle.

I've just noticed that my tag didn't work. Trying again IndigoBlue61 .

I'd be very happy to follow in your footsteps but I doubt I'll do 3lbs in a week for four weeks. If I acieve an average of 1lb a week I'll be happy. I may weigh myself fortnightly so I don't become obsessed as is in my nature. Any views on that would be appreciated.😊

Hi SallyMJ and welcome. I only joined a couple of weeks ago. This forum is great, very supportive and full of good advice on all things weight-loss.

You have taken the first and most difficult step in deciding to get to a healthy weight. Sure you will manage it. Good luck :)

Hello SallyMJ and welcome to the weight loss forum ☺ I see you have had a lovely warm welcome there from our friendly members 😊

Here are a few suggestions to help you get the most from the forum.

The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you ☺

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news ☺

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for ☺

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate ☺

The forum also have group weigh-ins every day if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page ☺

You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you may have a 'Newbie' badge. If you have any questions or would like a Newbie badge please just ask ☺

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too ☺

Best wishes
