Slimming groups

Over the past 10 years I have been a member of one of more slimming groups, attending every week and paying my membership. I always lost weight the first few weeks, but then it stopped and I would yoyo but I kept going and paying my membership. They talk about free foods , health this and that and I was sucked in and hooked. In the 10 years I've never managed to get under 12st. Frustrating but I carried on going and paying my membership. For about 2 months I have questioned the way I was trying to lose weight and most of all the money I have wasted. Enough is enough I came across the nhs weight loss programme. It's a game changer. In two weeks I have lost 5lb. Feel healthier, have more energy, look better and I'm not paying a membership fee, result. I'm loving calorie counting its so easy and I'm enjoying food I have avoided for years. I know this is the right plan for me. I'm excited to see the results in the weeks to come

I don't know what the BUS program is.

But Slimming World is a disaster long term, so anything else is better.

Oh! I should have got that.

Google showed me this, which I correctly assumed it wasn't what you meant.

Honestly, I am not that happy with the NHS diet, but many others are. I salute your success, and hope it continues.

You had us all wondering :D :D

You'll need to find the correct calorie range from the NHS BMI calculator. Experience here says you are best aiming for the middle/upper end of that range for steady weight loss and a calorie level where you won't be hungry and eating the table leg :)

Hello and welcome, Mable68, and well done on your loss so far. As you're following the 12 week plan, I advise taking your calorie range from the NHS BMI calculator and aiming fir the middle of that range.

You'll find all the forum activities, clubs and challenges in Pinned Posts but following this link healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... A good place to start is by joining a weekly wieGH in on the day of your choice (why not head over to the Sunday weigh in in the morning?) and using the Daily Diary, where members share their meal plans.

Take your time exploring then join in chats, ask questions and encourage others - it will all pay off for you

Morning Mable68 I went to a slimming group too I did eventually loose 2stone

But I truly disliked going to the group a few people who had been going for years thought it was all about them & they had to be centre of attention!

I have just joined this group so many lovely people on here all here to help & motivate us

Good luck with your journey , with this group I'm sure we can get where we want too be 😊

Hi Mable, good to see you on the forum, like you I have been a member of sliming groups 3-4 times on and off. Have lost weight, but then put it back on again. Glad I found this site, at the moment I have stopped counting calories and am following LCHF and IF. Good luck with your goals.

Hello Mable68 and welcome to this Forum!

No money required to join here and we aim to help you avoid up yo- yo'ing for sure!

People adopt a mix of approaches on here which you will see as you explore this site. We strongly recommend new members make use of one of our Weekly Weigh In pages and the Daily Diary posts. You will find these via this link following which takes you to our Pinned Posts section. There you will find a Welcome message, general advice (eg: internet safety)and guide to our site plus links to a range of groups which we hope will interest you as well as the key Weigh In and Daily Diary pages.....

healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

....it can take a bit to learn how to find one's way around so please read the material carefully and also note, don't use the HU App, it is much easier to use the website.

As explained above, we recommend that members join a Weekly Weigh-In, on the day of your choice, and also use the Daily Diary, where members share their meal plans and get useful feedback. They are found under Pinned Posts (go back to the link I gave you above)

A special feature of our Forum is the degree of support between members which you will experience (and add to yourself !) as you join in and chat with others.

All the best on your weight-loss journey ! 😊

Well done Mable68,

Great support on this forum, it's open all the time and best of all it's free.

Have a great week.

Gary

Hi Mable68, this is a new path for me, I am looking to address both weight and fitness levels, I have never felt comfortable about groups or gyms, far to intimate.

I like your new found enthusiasm, lets hope it will permeate the ether to us all.

You can do it, I know how you feel. I'm making some fantastic meal that I have found on the bbc good food site and when I work out how to post a picture I will. Good luck with your journey

I completely get this. I had been a member of firstly WW and then SW, dutifully paying my membership each week, buying the magazines and getting sucked into the whole business. Every year it would get to holidays and I wouldn't be at my target weight, having eaten all the "free food '.

I had an epiphany in September last year whilst on holiday and said to my OH,this isn't working, I'm.not happy and I'm.spending a fortune. So, I decided that the membership each week would go towards a gym membership and I went 3 times a week, I love it and then came lockdown and all hope of normality, I put a bit of weight on and was beginning to develop some bad habits and I discovered the NHS plan, I'm coming to the end of my second week and lost 5lbs in my first week. I'm getting used to counting calories and use My Fitness Pal app to record my food, and of course, I use these forums for support and they are fab.

The diet industry had me in their pocket for far too long and it was a massive eye opener when I stopped going.

The very best of luck,I'm sure you'll smash it 😊

Siggie, so so true and a mirror of my journey. I'm really enjoying counting calories and enjoying everything I'm eating. I'm the same I've lost 5lb in two weeks it's a great feeling. Keep up the great attitude
