First post - I'm ill

Hi everyone, I have been following the NHS weight loss guidance for 6 weeks now. I have lost 3kg and started running for the first time in 10 years. Really pleased with my progress so far but in the last week I have fallen ill with a a cold and flu. Because of this I have not been able to go running and I am even struggling with my at home exercises like yoga and toning. Doe's anyone have any advice? I'm worried that this bump in the road is going to mean I lose all my progress so far.

Hi and welcome to the forum gudetama123

Sorry to hear you have a cold / flu - I suggest you keep eating healthy and reduce the exercise until you feel better - please note no one on the forum is medically trained

I would like to invite you to join our Newbie Club, which we hope will be a good place for you to connect with members, who are also just starting out, or re-starting.

If you just post a few words on the November Newbie Club thread to introduce yourself and respond to others there you will soon feel part of the club.

Follow this link to the Newbie club: healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Please read all the information carefully, it is very useful and can be referred to whenever you want to check something.

It just remains for me to wish you well on your journey

:)

Thank you! I'll do that now

I wouldn’t worry. In my experience, weight loss has far more to do with reducing calorie intake than exercising. There are lots of people on here with moderate to severe mobility problems, and they still lose weight when they restrict calories. Focus on getting over your cold, (which might affect your weight loss in itself), eat healthily and worry about exercising when you feel better.

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond to my post - I feel so much better about it after seeing all these supportive replies! I will just keep resting and stop beating myself up about being ill. Thanks again :)

Being unwell is okay! its normal I guess for us to feel worried but maybe you can help the way you view this time. Its a time of yuk but also healing as you just need to change the way your looking after yourself. Adapt and change with life punches as it were. Honey and lemon are a wonderful concoction as well as some old fashioned paracetamol.

Try not be to hard on yourself after all the fantastic work you have done. 3 kg is fantastic.

Hope you feel better soon

Take it easy. Give your body the time it needs to heal. focus on getting well (rest, fluids, Paracetamol,...etc) Then ease back into your routine. You have done really well. Hope you feel better soon

Welcome gudetama123 and congratulations on how far you've come in such a short time. Good but sensible weight loss and great going on the exercise.

You're ill so so there's no reason why you shouldn't just slow down a bit. It's not a race and your body just needs a small break so that you can be at your best. Listen to your body, slow down and if necessary up your intake. Get well first and then carry on with your journey.

I became ill shortly after starting my journey and I can understand your concerns. I know it's not as easy as I've just said, so all I can say is try to stay relaxed because you will get there in the end.
