One thing I have learnt today (well, maybe over a number of days) is to spread out your meals and healthy snacks and don't try and really under eat. I have eaten under 1000 calories so far today and I am feeling like I have no energy. My reflection (although short) is about what I will do about it tomorrow.
You might consider watching or listening to Dr. Jason Fung online, on the physiological reasons behind weight gain (and loss.) But his number one tip is the opposite of what you say you want to try (and, btw, what we were all told to do for so long) and that is spreading out your calories, or snacking.
He explains really well why this doesn't work in the long run, even if it might seem to be a temporary fix. It has to do with insulin and fat storage.
