Migraine avoidance and still lose weight?

MissTSi profile image

I suffer with hemiplegic migraine which is usually well controlled with medication. I have managed to lose 12kg successfully although this has taken me about a year. However I cannot shift the last 3 kilos I want to lose so I have restricted calories but on day one mid afternoon boom migraine strikes. Any suggestions other than little meals often which means I will maintain but still not lose. Thanks in advance

Hi and welcome, MissTSi :)

I have no personal experience of migraines, with or without weight loss, but thought these may interest you and be a way forward.

Hi Miss TSi. I suffer from migraine with aura and was told that low blood sugar or a sudden drop in blood sugar triggers migraine.

I hope this helps.

Thank you. Yes drop in blood sugar is no doubt the cause. It is always a definite trigger for me. The problem being do I just suffer the migraine in the hopes that I lose the weight.

Thank you for your comments. I lost the 12kg by basically avoiding carbs apart from one sandwich at lunch at work. If I didn't have that as a minimum then I got migraine but usually after about five days of no carbs. Because I couldn't shift the last bit of weight I changed it up a bit and am trying whole grain carbs but low protein with healthy fats. I was surprised at how severe and fast the migraine came on first day of no breakfast, Greek yogurt and fruit lunch and then wholgrain pasta salad for main meal. I have had to eat more today because I'm was so ill.
