Hi all! New here I do well at healthy eating until evening time after obsessing over healthy eating all day. Then it gets after dinner I reward myself with 500 kcals or thereabouts of sugary treats ! Any advice please? Many thanks Laura

Giving in at evening
Hey, I save a low cal snack for this time. Such as popcorn, a highlights hot choc(39cal), 2 finger kitkat etc.
I also do a lot of sewing and I find if my mind is lost in sewing I dont really think about food.
Hope this helps 💕
Thank you purple stitches I will try this. How are you doing on your weight loss journey?
I know exactly where your coming from . Seems we have the same mind set 🙈. I know they say to have some fruit instead but it doesn’t give me the sugar fix 😩. Doesn’t help with all these cooking programs on 😳. I m interested in hearing replies / suggestions on this matter too . And tbh with all the programs on coping with the virus/ situation , that in itself is pushing me into the kitchen on a semi regular basis 🥴.
I switched to intermittent fasting and low carb/high fat. I eat to satiety at dinner - decent amount of protein, loads a veggies and quite a lot of fat - and then I kick off my overnight fast so I don't give myself permission to snack, but I find I also no longer want to snack.
If you don't eat at all after dinner, you won't overindulge. Your ancestors (probably starting with your grandparents) did not eat another meal's worth of calories after dinner. You should strive to do the same. Finish your evening meal, and don't eat anything (water and black tea or coffee allowed) for at least 12 hours, and more if you can.
I blame the 70’s advert “ A drink s too wet without one “ ....... I find it really difficult to have a cuppa on its own 🙄🙈
I didn't know what you were talking about, but Google updated me! What a charming commercial.
Except it might have been part of the reason Britain has added so many meals to the the day!
Oh Blimey 🙈, that shows how old I am that you had to google it 😂.
If you're old enough to remember a 70s advert 😁 you may be old enough, like me, to remember that most of us used to have breakfast around 8, dinner/lunch around 1, and tea/ dinner or whatever around 6, and that was it. We didn't call it "intermittent fasting", we just called it eating 3 meals a day.
Oh, no, that's not right. I recognised Dave the barman and ... the other guy...from Minder. I didn't see the ad because I only moved to the UK in '99.
But yes, you (and I) are old.
I m not sure this was the original advert , or whether there were several ones 🤷♀️. I was in junior school - I just remember the advert . Shows what advertising can do doesn’t it 😳
This is what Google turned up.
I like this intermittent fasting idea. Do you still find you count cals or that it’s enough to eat your meal at night then stop. Also what do you do through the day? Do you eat from say midday? Thanks. Think I’ll give this a go xx
I tried intermittent fasting with just an evening meal for 3weeks and lost...... 0 lb.
Everyone’s body seems to be different perhaps that’s why it’s been so difficult to lose weight for so many.🤔
Sheesh. Makes you wonder then about cals in cals our if that’s the case 🤔. It is certainly easier to go on than to lose it lol xx
Hi and welcome, GlamMeUp
Here are a few things for you to read to challenge the cals in cals out idea:

All of the information you need about the forum can be found in Pinned Posts healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... and I hope you'll be joining all the Events, Challenges and Clubs that we run, especially a weigh-in and the daily diary.
We've found active participation to be key to successful weight loss and, of course, it's a good way to get to know people, find inspiration and share support and encouragement.
Wishing you all the best
Yeah, you've sort of got the idea already. I started with Michael Mosley's Fast800, and found that I felt much better eating a small meal and one substantial one that left me feeling full, than spreading it evenly over 3 meals.
I stopped counting calories in January and the weight loss has slowed down a lot, but it's still moving downwards. I am very close to my original goal weight, so that's OK.
It also will have other health benefits. I noticed my A1c creeping up, so hopefully this has stopped that. My intention was to have checked that about now, but CV19 has put a stop to all that.

Hello and Welcome to the Weight Loss Forum Lippy29 😊
If you haven’t already then please read the Pinned Posts here healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... Please read it carefully so you can find all the information you need to find your way around.
As a peer to peer support group we rely heavily upon mutual encouragement. Nothing beats joining in, reading posts and replying to others. Our Group Weigh-in and the Daily Diary are probably the best places to start
The best advice I can give is have enough to eat. If you are following the NHS 12 Week plan then the 1400/1900 calorie target suggested is a just generic amount, please check your own personal calorie target using the BMI checker, it’s often higher than you think. We always advise starting towards the top of the range, being hungry is the biggest cause of weight loss failure, and possibly why you feel the need to snack in the evening.
What you eat is also important. Fat is no longer believed to be the bad guy, it’s an essential nutrient and essential for satiety. Please read this for a more detailed explanation

Best wishes in your weight loss journey, please just ask if you have any questions
Indigo 😊
I would guess you're possibly not "healthy eating" during the day but eating too little.
IndigoBlue61 has given you some good pointers about where to find the correct calorie range, and not being nervous about healthy fats. You could start there, and also by joining the Daily Diary.
Sugar. It’s addictive. You aren’t weak willed, you are experiencing a normal physiological response to sugar. If you eat some. Your body (not just your mind craves more). If you want to stop eating sugary ‘treats’ (though why we call them treats when they make us fat & give us diabetes I don’t know), the best way is to give up sugar altogether. One way of doing it is to tell yourself you can eat anything you like, AT ALL in any quantity so long as it is not sugar. And then when you are used to no sugar after a fortnight, get back on track.
Note. And this is the hard bit, white rice, bread, pasta & potatoes behave the same way as sugar in the bloodstream & will trigger sugar/carb cravings too.
Thank you all for your replies also what filling things do you eat other then potatoes and pasta as they make me sleepy!
Hi Lippy29, I agree with the earlier posts, I also have an evening over ereaters virus😊( just can't stop, could eat snacks to value of extra meal) but I've no excuse as I live on my own .
When I focus on drinking 3 litres of water throughout the day as well as LCHF supper I tend not to go wild raiding the fridge.
You are doing well considering you have children to care for.
I like to visualise a snack as a metabolic top up to my energy needs, and if I eat that evening snack then my body won't go to my stored energy(fat cells) to get what it needs to run my metabolism overnight. That thought stops me from snacking most of the time.
