Premature grey hair due to metformin used for weight loss
Why on earth are you using "metformin for weight loss"? Apart from the fact that it's not approved for that, it's unlikely to work in the long term.
If you are T2 diabetic (or even if you're not) simply eating an appropriate diet will solve a lot of your problems. Has your doctor given you some advice on this? If not, I suggest either signing up for the NHS Low Carb Programme, or the Diabetes Prevention Programme.
Eating appropriately is not difficult, but it's useful to have someone talk you through it.
Good morning,
I am afraid we are not medically trained and have no answer to the problem with your hair. I would suggest that a chat to your GP would be in order, although in current times, I am not sure that you would get an appointment.
I am not sure if you are still trying to loose weight and want to join the forum to gain some support with that or are just here to enquire about the problem with your hair.
If you are still trying to loose weight, then please let us know and we can welcome you appropriately.
No im not taking metformin anymore. i research on internet to figure out the problem than i know that metformin completey inhibite the vitamin b12 in your blood which is the main cause of grey hair, that is why i take b12 sublingual which significantly lower headache and some of my hair turn black again. But now when i don't take metformin anymore why symptoms back ?
I’m not sure about the medical elements but I can comment on the grey hair.
I really hope the post isn’t about insecurities about that? embrace it! Grey hair is so on trend, it’s really stylish, I’m jealous of a few people I’ve seen with fabulous silver and grey hair it looks amazing. In fact I’m considering stripping my hair colour out to go grey!
Not sure whether metformin was the cause or not. I started getting grey hair at the age of 31, a friend of mine was completely grey at the age of 25 and another had a 'hormone imbalance' after giving birth and her brown hair turned completely white (not overnight - the new hair started growing that way) - she now looks a stunning 'platinum blond'. I know it's difficult, but try not to stress about it, keep eating well, so that if your hair remains grey at least it will be in good condition. As ScarletM says, grey hair, particularly streaks/patches are very on trend and a lot of people have their hair coloured in this way. Try to embrace it if you can.
You don't understand it i said i got ice pick headache(which is sooooo terribly painful) and my hair turn grey on that area, which means something happens on that area which causes grey hair
SEE A DOCTOR!
Doctor can't figure out the cause, they said ice pick headache is rare and there is no significant data for this. that is why i do my own research.
Definitely 100% metformin is the cause.
Personally I would see another doctor. Are you in a country with good health care? It’s unlikely a reputable & experienced doctor would tell you he has no idea what is causing your terrible headaches & send you away.
A serious headache can be a sign of other health issues. It may also be a sign of extreme anxiety &, forgive me, you are sounding very stressed. It does not sound at all plausible that a drug you stopped taking took 18 months ago would cause you an icepick headache & grey hair in one particular point of your head. If it were my head, I’d want a brain scan.
However. What would you like people on this forum to tell you? You are already sure that metaformin is causing these problems. You aren’t taking it anymore. You imply you aren’t going back to the doctor because the doctor has no idea. So what would you like us to say?
It shows metformin causes decease in brain white matter.

The reason of my post is that if i got any help and also to inform peoples.
FDA approved trial for metformin as antiaging drug. They must count this.
