Hi Diianna and welcome
I'd say the majority here are divided between cal counting and lchf, though there are others.
Why not look at today's Daily Diary... healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... read through the different menus and get a feel as to what may suit you. You'll be impressed at the expansive and tasty menus.
Well I wouldn’t totally dismiss it and lost weight in the past and know lots who have and the actual plan can work but I’m now counting calories and they do points. Also they are the low fat and pretend sugar brigade. Years ago there wasn’t calorie help on packs or internet so the point system was good. I was eating far too many calories. It’s basically a good plan and if you need group help in the beginning. Also depends on the leader.....some are brilliant, but it’s also a business to keep you there. I think they have modernised the plans a bit more now. For me personally it’s healthy calories along with lowish carbs. That’s my two penny worth, I’m sure loads will reply x
Hi Diianna,
I personally wouldn't recommend WW. I don't believe there is any food that should be zero rated. I think I am also right in saying that they promote low fat/low calorie diet foods, which I also don't agree with as these usually contain a lot of sugar and are far from satiating, which will not help you to stop snacking.
On top of that, they can become expensive with membership fees and then their brand of food that they will encourage you to purchase and all the recipe books. Some people do really well with WW, but several have reported that once they leave the weight goes back on. This, in my opinion, is because WW is a diet plan and not a sustainable way of eating for life.
This forum is free, you will get support almost 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
You had a lot of really helpful replies yesterday, did you look at the links that I gave you?
It would be nice if you could go back to those replies and respond to forum members that were offering you support.
Ultimately you have to find something that is going to work for you, I am afraid there are no quick fixes. You need to find an eating plan that you can live with for life so that you don't become a yo-yo dieter.
Good luck
Totally agree but you are better with the words than me. Whatever anyone decides it still boils down to mindset and willpower 🤐
Actually you make a very good point about the leader. I joined many years ago and the leader just was not very engaging or encouraging at all.
You are so right about mind set, that has a lot to do with weight loss
I had a really lovely enthusiastic leader and she wasn’t a skinny ninny one but I couldn’t justify the cost and the products they sell and most people were losing and gaining the same stones including me but l wouldn’t ever totally diss it as it has good bits about it🤑🤑🤑
I find that weight watchers peddle junk food with their name on it claiming it's supposedly healthy when no it isn't!
Hello,
Thanks very much for you comments.
I actually looked on the nhs site and some how ended up on diet doctor.
Which really helped me see where i was going wrong with which foods to eat. I liked it so much that I created an account so personalize my meal plans.
I also restarted the gym today having not been for about a week.
I’m going to look now at the links you left me see if anything there is also helpful for my case.
Thank you very much for your replies .
Everyone on here as motivated me so much to continue pushing to reach my goals.
Diannaa93, it wasn’t for me. I went to one group and left after two months. I just didn’t get my head round the zero points thing either. And maybe being male I was a bit intimidated. I get the motivation and expert advice on here. If I lapse, I reset and go again. But WW is huge and very popular, and has to be perfect for many.
I tried both WW and SW - neither suited me. I rather use that money that I spend on diet groups on buying healthy foods and going to an exercise class or swimming 🏊♀️ to be honest. I’ve learnt to do my own research on healthy eating rather then silly diets and do what is right for my body. Xx 💋
Hello and Welcome to the Weight Loss Forum Silver-Moon
I agree with you, nothing beats doing your own research and if you need group support, then this forum is open 24/7 and it’s completely free 😊
If you haven’t already then please read the Pinned Posts here healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... Please read it carefully so you can find all the information you need to find your way around.
As a peer to peer support group we rely on mutual encouragement, and nothing beats joining in, reading posts and replying to others. Our group Weigh-in and the Daily Diary are probably the best places to start.
Best wishes in your weight loss journey

No, I tried it and it didn't work.
It worked for me. I was 12st 6lbs and got to 11st 2lb over 8mths. I ate Weight Watchers food at first, as the calories were counted, then I used a calorie counter and planned my own meals. I also measured myself monthly and I could see the inch loss.
I joined a gym when I was 11st 2lbs, as my weight was static. I got down to 10st 7lbs by attending Weight Watchers and the gym five evenings a week. I lost my partner 4mths after joining the gym and the women there were very supportive. Even though I had intended to get to 9st 7lbs, I looked and felt good at 10st 7lbs. I continued with the gym for another 6mths and Weight Watchers monthly as I was now maintaining my weight.
However, I did regain a stone in weight, after two years of leaving Weight Watchers and the gym. I was depressed over the loss of my partner.
Like all eating and exercise programmes, you will gain weight if you don't stick to it
I don't like weight watchers myself as they are too dictatorial in my view.
I have never done WW, but I do do SW.. I have seen some really good progress. I have lost 10% of my weight in 3months.. from 16st 7 to 14st 12 now. And my partner has lost 2 stone.
I don't feel I am on a diet, I do feel it's a lifestyle change.
Slimming groups are not for everyone, just the same as Intermittent Fasting isn't for everyone. We are all different. I personally really like the support and encouragement from the group I attend. I have pretty much stopped counting SW syns now, I am just much more mindful of what I am eating and for me - having that SW syn count attached to food helped me a lot at the beginning to focus my mind on what was going in my body.
I would never say one thing is or isn't right for someone else though, or be dismissive of it - we all have different needs, and I wish you all the best in your healthier journey!
My understanding is that weight watchers promotes a high carb low fat diet. Dr Dan Maggs explains on carbdodging.com why this diet will not work long term as it does not fit with how our bodies & the hormone insulin works. Everyone puts the weight back on - which is an ideal business model if you want repeat customers... as weight watchers do...
