Hope your all well and enjoying yourselves. I've finally started to get my head under control which has helped me to focus. Weight watchers was doing a half price offer at the right time so I've decided to go back to my meetings, and then, just to get me all excited, I saw this...
Hi. I hope your return to ww works for you. The swim thing sounds like fun. Are you on the new ww plan. Can you advise me how does it work. I don't know much about it. I was given a referral but didn't take it up as I was doing okay on he NHS weightloss plan. Now I have got to the e end of that I don't know which way to go. I was diagnosed prediabetic in July and after reading around on here thought I needed to reduce carbs and have been trying LCHF but am not getting on well with it. I am wondering whether I should now take up the ww referral. Does it allow low carbs? If it based on low fat as NHS advice I'm not sure if it is what I need but I need to do something. Thank you
G'day Gizmocat, the weight watchers plan is points based. You get so many points based on your weight, height and fitness level that you can use each day plus a weekly allowance which helps out for the unexpected events. It doesn't promote one diet over another however the healthier the food type, the lower the points with many unprocessed foods such as fruits, veg, beans etc, being zero points which means that you'll naturally find that your eating healthier as a direct result of wanting to stay within your points and yet remain satiated. I like the weekly meetings as this helps me to stay focused but everyone is different. I don't think it's necessarily better than any other diet like the NHS plan, but it's worked for me in the past and now that I've gotten into a better mindset, I decided that it was time to get back into it. If your doctor is offering you a referral than I would definitely go for it, if only to give you a taste of something different. As for your carbs, I'm vegan so they are a big part of my diet. I did notice that I had to reduce these in order to stay within my points but that doesn't necessarily make it a low carb diet, only that I eat more of them than someone who isn't vegan. I do find that I eat less 'bad' carbs like breads and junk food and focus more on the whole foods carb options like vegetables, rice, potato etc. which again, means that I'm eating healthier. I'm afraid I don't know what LCHF stands for so I can't advice you on it. (Sorry, I'm rubbish at acronyms!)
LCHF is low carb high fat. It doesn't allow you anything sugary or anything like rice ,pasta bread or potatoes. You eat more fat instead but I am really struggling with it. Eating less carbs is making me feel ill and I have real cravings for something sugary. I can't get my head round the extra fat idea either.
I did well on the NHS plan an thought imwas eating healthily and I lost weight but being prediabetic thought I was eating too many carbs. I am very confused as there is so much conflicting advice out there about diets. I have been waiting since July for a diabetic prevention program appointment. Now only two weeks away. So been trying to help myself as best I can.
I am wondering now if ww would help me as I know I need to reduce carbs but finding it so hard. Or struggle on for two more weeks and hope that (eventually!) I get advice e from the DPP.
the lchf is not working? Im sorry. I know for me being prediabetic as well it is the best thing to do and Im starting tomorrow. if you have never tried weight watchers, you could try it but cutting out sugar is pretty much on any healthy way of eating. I don't know how well the lchf will work out for me but if I keep eating like I am now I will be the size of a house very soon... sad but true. anyway, I wish you luck no matter what you choose and chin up doll! we can do this
I hope it works from you. Please let me know how you get on. I had already cut out sugar on he NHS plan and don't eat a lot of pasta and rice anyway. It's cutting out bread and potatoes I am finding hard. It is making feel rotten and I am getting cravings for sugary stuff which I didn't on he NHS plan and I did lose weight. I have no idea what my blood sugar is like now. It was 44 in July and hasn't been checked since. I have lost 6.3 kg (about 1stone) since then so am hoping they are down. Hopefully I will find out in two weeks at the long awaited appointment. I just wish he wait wasn't so long I needed advice when diagnosed and have had to wait 4months. In the meantime I have tried to help myself but don't know if I am on the right track.
