Help with losing weight after picking it all up again?

I was doing well... i had lost about 7KG i was feeling healthy, happy, my back wasn't as sore anymore, I was more active. And then i picked up all the weight again. I started tracking my calories again, I walk for an hour every day (30 min morning, and 30 min after work). I go to the gym three times a week. I drink 2l of water. And i just cant get the weight to budge. It has been weeks again now... and i am just stuck. I weigh more now than I did when i started, and I feel yucky and sluggish and in pain.

Hi Nagappie! you say you’re tracking calories but if you don’t mind me asking what is your calorie range? On the one hand if you’re not eating at a deficit then you won’t lose on the other, which sounds more likely because of your tiredness, is that your not giving your body enough food. I’d suggest taking a few weeks to work out what your body needs for maintenance and then take 10-15% off that number.

I know when I started I was eating way too few calories for my body and felt tired/dizzy a lot as soon as I upped my calories to well over 2000 I began feeling much better.

Also it may seem like nonsense but what if you tried to do less? It sounds like your doing a lot of exercise and if that’s a new routine for you that also stresses the body. You could try scaling back to one walk a day or doing two ever other day to give your body a better chance at recovery. Don’t be afraid to go to your GP/doctor as well they’ll likely be able to help with the pain and have a better idea if there could be some health issue that is causing your difficulties.

Thank you! I am eating between 1,500 - 1,600. Not sure if that is really what I need to be honest? I remember there being a link when I first joined here about how to calculate what you really need to eat depending on weight and that - which I should try and dig up again.

I guess it is also a lot of what I should be eating too. I try to fill a third of my plate with fresh veg, then protein then carbs.

I will try and take rest days - i most walk because it is easier to get to work and back than taking the bus. But i can change how often I go to the gym and relax more.

I was just doing so well and felt so great and then fell off the wagon...

I would have put the link in my reply but unfortunately I’m on my phone. If you google NHS choices BMI you should get to it. Once you’ve put in your details in that’ll give you a rough idea and then its a question of experimenting to see what holds your weight steady then you can take off 10% off.

So for example if your maintenance is 1500 then if you subtract 10%-15% then you end up with a range of 1350-1275 calorie a day.

You don't say how old you are. I have been on a diet since the age of 14 years, I'm 61 years now and still not happy with my weight. A yo yo, self saboteur is how I would describe myself. I have now joined the NHS forum and lost 3 lbs, early days.!! I have friends who are almost honary members of WW and slimming world fluctuating between the two, I have Ben to both they are self saboteurs too. We had a reflection session a few weeks ago the conclusion being we had to stop dieting, as such and work on our psychy. We know all the theory it's just the execution we are where results are mixed.

So here is my advice to you. Ditch the diet mentality, do it for your health and well being. You know what it feels like, you have done it before. You know what healthy food looks like, colourful..! And you know what a portion size consists of, less than you usually want! You know excercise gives you a buzz, so do what you can, when you can. Have small sub goals to work towards and treat yourself along the way, as and when they are achieved. Keep track of your food, and not just on your good days. When you stuff your face, don't punish yourself by stuffing yourself for the next week, get back on track.......... I wonder if this sounds familiar.

Some would say I haven't done too bad over the years I have only ever been about 20lbs over weight, but at 5ft 2 inch this shows. I now have a cut off in my head a weight I won't stray across. This is coming down. As a permanent change I am concentrating on reducing sugar intake and refined carbohydrates. This makes me feel so ooooo much better. I like to get out each day if I can for fresh air and exercise, otherwise I feel sluggish and stir crazy.

You can do this, work on your inner voice, stay positive and good luck. Xxxx

Thank you so much for your words! I am 27, to answer your question.

I think I am so stuck on the, 'I have to diet and be a certain size to be happy' mentality that i forget about what my body needs, and what I actually want. Do I want to be happy? Of course! Will being a size 10 make me happy? I have no idea. Will feeling better, healthier, sleeping better make me happy? Pretty sure it will.

I am just so caught up in this cycle of whatever else thinks they want, that I think I want it too.

I used to aspire to be Olive Oil, not that I had a thing for Poppeye!! 😉😉😉. Then I realised Betty Boop was much more realistic, so now I have a figure that I keep to remind me. it is much better to be curvatous, sexy and contented👄👵👵😙😙💏💏 than skinney and stressed😭😭🤦‍♂️🤦‍♀️

Fabulous response Lzlycraft I think we can all take something from those wise words, I bet pretty much everyone here reading that saw something of themselves there.

Good luck Nagappie but remember you are not alone and don’t punish yourself over this because we have probably all been where you are now, you are no more weak willed than many of us unfortunately. We will get there though - we are all in the right place to do that.

Have a fun day xx
