hi there found out what suits me is very low fat meals no more than 3gr fat per day as have gallstones and needing to lose weight for operation to remove it, i found 6 apple sized meals a day suits me wonderfully as tried many many diets and not one succeeded! this recommended by my own dietician and wowzers weight falls off! but have to lose 15.6kgs before considered for surgery as is more safer if i do for general anaesthesia. Is anyone else in same boat? have you fybromyalgia and osteoarthritis? if so what do you do about it?

Hi and welcome, Katya1970 :)

Well done for finding what suits you. I had my gallbladder out years ago and have since discovered that it's low fat eating that is the cause of gallstones. I now follow a low carb, high fat way of eating and only 2 meals a day. It's also a good diet for inflammation, so I've found it's really helped my arthritis. However, we each have to find what works for us, as individuals.

What is the secret to your awesome weightloss?

Hi Katya! So glad you've found a way of coping with the regular small meals.

I remember also myself the intense pain and trips to A&E with my gallbladder attacks. All while I was pregnant with my son. Very frightening.

My way of coping, at the time 3 - 4 years ago, was also to go very very low fat, and eating regular small amounts. I was militant about it - scared to eat anything unless I knew it was 'safe'. I lived mainly on steamed broccoli, potatoes, grilled fish, tomatoes, blueberries and cloudy apple juice!! 30kg in weight fell off over 9 months.

I guess it gave my gallbladder a chance to recover at the time, but I've since realised that eating a "low fat" diet most of my adult life is most likely what put me in this predicament to start with.

Unfortunately, once my gallbladder calmed down, and I started to eat a more balanced diet again, the weight just piled back on - 30kg over 3 years. 😱

This year, after researching for ages, and then just feeling desperate to lose weight I decided to take a risk. Dipped my toes into the LCHF way of life.

I feel very lucky it has worked out well. I had a few gallbladder grumbles for the first few weeks, then somehow it has all worked out really well. I eat large amounts of green vegetables and salads (still love my broccoli 🤣) along with higher amounts of healthy fats like olive oil, avocados, coconut oil etc. meat, fish etc.

My understanding now is that if I'm not consuming enough healthy fats then there's not enough bile flushing through my gallbladder, so things start to chrystalize, and sludge builds up.

Anyway... that's my theory, and it's working for me... but there are so many different gallbladder issues, and each one requires a different response!

I wish you super best of luck with the weight loss, and hope that maybe your gallbladder settles back down so you don't need the surgery.

I hope you post again - would love to know how you get on!

hi there lovely and thankyou for your reply yes i reckon you are right re low fat especially low good fats have caused mine too, unfortunately i cant manage any fats apart from flaxseeds lol. i eat 6 apple sized meals a day but this week seems to have slowed or put on weight i will find out in weigh in tomorrow morning eeek. unfortunately its a given on open surgery early next year hence got to lose minimum 6kgs to 16kgs by then see surgeon on 21st november. am scared but flushes are too dangerous to do and my few stones are around 2cms each. gallbladder attacks are minimal so that is good i worked out big meals over produce bile so makes gallbladder niggle. cosmo501 i would love to add you on my hub thingy is that ok? i still no idea how to use these things fybro fog brain. Let me know how you get on too please x
