Hi and welcome, Bosunboy31 :)

Most of us have had a lifetime of diets, so tend to steer clear of them now and aim for a healthier and more sustainable lifestyle. If you have a look at the menus posted on our daily diary, you'll see how diverse our different approaches are.

Follow this link to our chat thread and a list of all the activities we run. We've found active participation to be key to success, especially with our weigh-ins and Daily Diary.

Well it’s finding what works for you, I followed SlimmingWorld but looked more to eating the healthier meals and planning rather than counting syns etc. Was slow and steady. Also loved added exercise ie walking and Zumba classes as found it lifted spirits and less time at home bored and nibbling lol it’s looking into where your weaknesses are and adapting. Welcome to start of success, it’s doable 😉

I think standard plans are difficult to stick to long term because they are not tailored to your tastebuds, body and lifestyle. I am calorie counting and have described my approach in more detail in my profile (click on my avatar to have a look).

Hello and welcome Bosunboy31 For me, I started by ditching all the junk food, sugar and snacks, reducing alcohol intake and portion sizes. I only bought and cooked from scratch and I increased my exercise by walking a bit every day. Once I was in to a healthier routine I started counting calories to make sure I was eating enough (of healthy food obviously). Eating too little can be counter productive so I got my personal calorie range from NHS BMI checker and started near the top of my range. As I lost weight this number reduced also (this is why it is important to start high).

Take it slowly as you want this to be your new lifestyle and not just another ‘diet’, and aim to lose half to two pounds a week which is a healthy, sustainable amount. Some weeks you may not lose at all but this is okay as your body just may be resetting itself so don’t lose heart if this happens. Set yourself small goals, say 7lbs at a time and give yourself a non food reward for each goal achieved. You will get lots of help and support from this forum and I wish you good luck. X

Hi, Bosunboy31 , welcome.

"Diet" is a four-lettered word.

Weight loss is not all about motivation and masochism - if you "slim smart" it is not so hard!

Many of us here find that what works is a combination of The Low Carbohydrate, High-Fat (LCHF) diet (see the forum here on Health Unlocked) and Not Snacking All Day AKA Intermittent Fasting (IF). See:

I give great support to starting out in that area. I went furtheer with my husband into eating Keto which is grain free, pasta free. But has lot's of benefits weight lose is great and esy to maintain. I did not have to drop weight jst liked the eating I'm not a snacker of carb's. I love cheese and butter products which you can have ton's of I zoodle nooles rather than pasta, zucchini, squash. Cauliflower rice is great to sub. as rice or in place of risotto. It depends on how many carb's I've consummed may eat some pasta but must prepare it ahead of time and chill to make it insulin resistant. The chilling effects the chemical reaction and causes the pasta's or rices to change molecular stucture. Dreamfield pasta makes one that to me that is still low carb 5-6 carbper serving thay got in a lawsuit over their claims for diabetic patients and removed that label Still use once and a while. Welcome, I think everyone covered the big secrets remain calm seek out other groups, join in ask for help. You'll meet super friendly individuals.

I'm hypo and use it to maintain level glucose numbers. It allows me to eat some carb's as we are Keto even though I eat on the high range. I need to keep level numbers at all times I fall into the hypo mode of the 40's in a heart beat. I can be at 177 and shot 2 units and drop to the 40's, or it happens almost nightly around 3AM. My Dexcom is screaming but I'm sleeping through it my husband is calling trying to wake me from out of town. So it it's hypo my doctor was pleased I was testing insulin resistantant means of keeping it stable.

I never neverover shot my insulin. I take 3LA at night and 1 unit per 15mg per carb's of short acting many a time. True I'm very reactive to insulin and we have ooked for a better solution for myself and their patients. ne has to take care will the chilly and preparing food this wasy. Insulin adjustment must be made, still very low this morning have had breakfast and have not had insulin woke up very low and continued to drop.

Not what you're looking for?
