Just how many calories should I be having each day?
I am not the best person to ask about that because I don't count calories, however I do believe there is some way on the NHS website to work out your calorie range and it's recommended you eat at the highest amount within this range...
🌸 hi and welcome. calories can be a tricky one. depending on how active you but they recon that women should be eating around 1200-1400 to loose weight. if you are used to eating alot more you can start reducing calories slowly so example start with 1800, 1600 then 1400. if you start to drastically in the beginning you will start feeling really hungry and it will make it harder to stick to. there are apps you can put on your phone where you can log your food/calories. I use myfitnesspal. you can even scan the bar code off the packaging. after a while you will start know portion sizes and won't need to do so much measuring etc. start slow changing your food. if you dnt like certain foods that is on a eating plan dnt force yourself to eat it it will make it hard to stick it out. I look at what foods I like that are healthy and incorporate those. Sometimes in the beginning all we need to do is cut down on our portion size. maybe try cut out unnecessary sugars. try for extra protein as it fills us up.
I battle to get to the gym too so I try walking when I can. also I have utube on my TV so I just find some cardio videos and try do that. there is a good variety so I can change it up. hope I'm not being to forward, but research has helped me. I'm still trying to do them myself. I have 3 stone to loose. I'm so glad I joined the group it's always good to know we are not in this journey alone. have a lovely day 🌸
Thank you so much.
In answer to your question how many calories should you be having, rather than going by what suits other people (whose weight, height, age and activity level may be very different from yours) get the calorie range appropriate for you from the NHS BMI calculator. Don't just pluck a figure out of the sky.
This, and everything else you need to know to get started you will find in the link to the Newbie Pack that moreless has given you, so do take a few minutes to read it.
And if you do use MyFitnessPal to log your food and exercise, you are best not to follow its suggested calories as they are notoriously stingy.
Good luck.
Hey! I only joined yesterday too. I’ve been on a weight loss journey before but it was a while back. With age, I’ve found that losing weight has become difficult for me. But, I see so many people who have not let age come in the way, so it’s definitely possible.
I joined this forum so I could be more disciplined this time round.
Things that have worked for me before and what I plan to pick up again are interval training in the gym, a low carb diet, nutritious breakfast, light dinners, good quality sleep and lots of water throughout the day.
Great. Thanks for the tips. Gym is out for me..too far but I am going to do hiit at home, currently working out a plan
Welcome to you!
Keep it simple.
If you can figure out how you put on the two stone you'll be able to get it off.
I eat too much in the evening so that's what had to stop for me.
There's no need to make this complicated.
Love to you.💮
Welcome. I'm new too. I've lost weight using low carb, I still have lots more to lose but for the first time in years I'm managing to keep to my plans. I've also started intermittent fasting which I find stops me grazing, I feel as tho because I can eat as much as I want within those 8 hours I don't feel restricted.
I have respiratory failure, lymphodaema & generalised osteoarthritis so am quite restricted as to what exercise I can manage but I put my joints thru their range of movements twice a day and this is becoming easier.
My good news is I can have a hip replacement when I've lost a further 3 stone which I now feel is achievable.
Keep coming here because the support and info here is very good and there usually some kind person helping someone
All the best xx
