What do you mean by "tight"? You have a limited range of motion, or the hip joint itself feels uncomfortable when you move it?
"Stretching" often does more harm than good, especially when it's done prior to exercise. It does little to increase joint mobility - which is basically fixed by your genetics - and it can exacerbate, rather than reduce, exercise-related injury. A much more effective (and safer) strategy is just to warm up, using progressively higher resistance and/or a wider range of motion over a period of 15 minutes or so. You should find that you can then go into a more intense exercise phase without joint discomfort. If the discomfort persists, stop immediately and do a different movement.
