Are there any barriers to exercise?

Hi to my fellow members.

Used to love exercise, now cannot get upstairs without heavy breathing, am I doomed to not exercise again. Need new knee and for health must get down to sensible weight. I have been swimming and only managed 12 lengths with stops inbetween, a far cry from the 30 I used to do.

If you lose the weight, you'll be able to exercise again, no doubt about it. You might never be as agile as you were - age takes its toll on all of us! - but you'll at least be able to climb the stairs without gasping for breath.

Only thing I'd say is: if you find the weight isn't shifting, don't just double down on a method that doesn't work. Life's too short.

Hello and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum Myfoodplate 😊

Exercise has many benefits but weight loss is much more about food. I also had to lose weight for ankle surgery and I used the chronic pain as a motivator, when I feel tempted I ask myself if it’s worth it, or would I rather have less pain.

You will have been given links to our Pinned Posts in your Welcome message when you first joined, please read them carefully, especially the Welcome Newbies and the Security Post, (I notice you have not locked your post) This is a very busy forum with lots going on but feel free to ask if you have any questions 😊

Best Wishes in your weight loss journey
