I read on the NHS site I should aim to eat only 1400Kcal per day, but on the BMI part of the site it suggests I go for 1800Kcal per day. So which is better for me?

I am confused
Hi and welcome, TamTam12
Ignore the 1400 calories, as that's a generic amount, unsuitable for most. The NHS BM calculator will give you a range, which I'm guessing is 1800 - 2200 and I would suggest aiming nearer the upper end, at least to start with.

But I have been eating way less than that! And I am putting weight on! My partner keeps complaining I don't eat enough but I thought I was being really good. The nurse told me to cut my portion sizes. This feels counter intuitive
Hi, maybe look at the foods you are eating as some you may think are healthy or low calorie may not be . Or like moreless said you arent actually eating enough and upping your calories slightly may kick start your weight loss. Keep logging into the forum as others may suggest a certain path to follow which may help you . Good luck.
It does seem counter-intuitive, but have a look at this for a more in-depth explanation healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Thanks so much, I am a whole food fan and have developed the "if it doesn't have nutrients I am not eating it" attitude, but I never thought I was not eating enough. This will also explain why I am so hungry at night! I feel like a fool lol. Anyway Im off to eat a lovely salad and beetroot burger
Just want to update, I increased my calorific intake with more veg and fruit, and I have dropped 1kg already! Not even increased it to my minimum range yet either. Feel motivated to keep going now. Dug out an old Ipod and as soon as I work out how, the exercise podcast is going on, I love walking!
