Where am I going wrong?

I started the 12 week plan last week, I have kept a thorough diary of every meal, snack and drink. I have been keeping under 1400 kcal per day and have massively reduced my carb intake. I'm drinking 2 litres of water and exercising every day. First weigh in today and I have lost 3 cm on my waist but gained 2lb. Now feeling lousy but still determined. I could really use some help with real meal ideas that don't break the bank.

It is possibly to do with the fact that you are not eating enough. I know this sounds strange and not right but when I first joined I was eating less than my bmi calculator stated for me and was losing nothing. When I mentioned it on here someone who has now left told me that I needed to eat more because my body would think that I was trying to starve it so would then turn what I did eat into body fat instead to ensure that it could keep going every day. Body fat weighs more than the amount of extra calories would if I ate those so it would be best for me to eat extra. I upped the amount of calories and I have now lost almost 2st and have found parts of my body are slimming and I can also tell that they are firming up to what they previously was. Do make sure you are eating the right amount. The correct amount can be found in the bmi calculator and as long as you eat somewhere in between the two amounts it advises you to lose weight you should be fine. Good luck with your journey.

Thanks for the reply and what you have said definitely makes sense. I'll up my intake and see what happens.

Hello mantha32 and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum 😊

I agree with HubbysMissMouse about eating the correct amount of calories, so please check your BMI as suggested below.

Here are a few more suggestions on how to get the most out of the forum. Please note if you are using the new HU App many of these features are not available so I suggest you use the full website version.

The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you ☺

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news ☺

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for ☺

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate ☺

The forum also have group weigh-ins every day, as well as a new Daily Diary, if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page ☺

You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you have a 'Newbie' badge. We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too. If you have any questions please just ask ☺

Best wishes

Anna

Don't despair. It took me 5 weeks to lose even an ounce in spite of counting every calorie. It was only the support from this forum that kept me on track. I would second HubbyMissMouse advice. Check the BMI calculator to ensure you are eating enough. You can do it so don't give up.👍

Thank you for the replies, it turns out the problem was actually my scales. My starting weigh in was on my mum's scales and my 1 week weigh in was on a new set we brought. I went down to my mum's the next day and I have actually lost 3 lbs so feeling much better. I have since taken back the set I brought and brought some weight watchers scales that are the same as my mums and they are much more accurate.
