Hi i just wondered is it harder to loose weight as you get older? I'm 59 and have been told that your metabolism slows down with age?

Yes I'm sure it is ,that's my excuse.

when I see how I've put weight on over the years I wonder how and why .

I was probably a lot fitter but the weight kept going up.

Good luck .

Gary

It isn't age so much as what we've done with the years in between :o The link lucigret had provided will explain and may give you a new direction.

You could also read this as a follow up, with the same message phcuk.org/wp-content/upload...

Many of us here are in the same situation, especially serial dieters. Reducing carbohydrates and getting over the barrier about healthy fats has made all the difference for me, and it's sustainable :)

Hi, Flossyflo55

Age is, to some extent an attitude of mind.

It is a lot easier to retain youth than to regain it, so, while you are still young... keep active and keep young.

There is a tendency to lose lean mass as we get older - so a little resistance or weight training can help. Cardiovascular exercise like walking also tones you up, burns calories and keeps you young.

Calorie restriction tends to suppress the metabolism, and Intermittent Fasting (IF) stimulates it, so IF is particularly beneficial for the not-so-young. See:

healthunlocked.com/fasting-...

I was disabled for half a decade, so getting young again and losing four stone took me about a year... but I got slim for my seventieth birthday.

Weight is not everything - particularly if you exercise and gain some muscle.

I an thinking about that as I do a lot of walking each day and am quite active generally when the arthritis in my foot allows

Intermittent Fasting is good for arthritis.
