I’m currently 16stone 6 and aiming for 12 stone to start with. I understand this will be a very long process and I need to change my habits and lifestyle. I’m just looking for tips and ways that people have done this! Thank you x

Hi and welcome to this forum where you will meet lots of people who will give you lots of encouragement and support on your journey. First thing to do is go and check your BMI and work on those calories. Admins will tell you to start with the higher number to have everyday. Read through the NHS 12 week plan and work through it. Work on small steps of no more than 7 lbs at a time ..this is what worked for me, I started Nov 2017 weighing in at 15 stone 7 3/4 lbs and have now lost 4stone 9 lbs . You have to work on a plan which is sustainable for you as this is a healthy lifestyle change for life. I still weigh all my food, count the calories and write everything down. I joined, eventually, one of the weigh in days on here where you will get to know those on same weigh in day. A tip too is to note your measurements for the start of your journey and check them every nw and then . Hopefully I have given you a few ideas and thoughts for your journey. You can and will get there , it does take a bit if planning food wise. I do very little exercise...just walked no round the local area and more so when on holiday as I am at the moment so don’t feel you have to get to the gym straightaway. Some have said there are exercise programmes on YouTube which are free so have a look on there. Good luck on your journey, look forward to following your progress. Have a lovely week Sue 🌻🌻🌻

Welcome to the forum where you’ll always find the congratulations, encouragement or consolation you need at any time. May I suggest you set yourself interim goals of a half stone at a time. Crashing through a goal always gives us a lift and gives us the chance to cheer you on, good luck for your journey😊
Hi. I had the same start weight as you and have been doing intermittent fasting 16:8 combined with Mediterranean diet since February and lost 16 pounds so far. I’m finding it very sustainable if not as fast as I’d like :). Happy to give you more details if that sort of thing appeals to you.
Counting and measuring can work for some people, but calorific restriction suppresses the metabolism.
Many of us find that The Low-Carbohydrate, High-Fat (LCHF) diet (See the forum here on Health Unlocked) in combination with Not Eating All Day aka Intermittent Fasting (IF) lets us lose weight without counting anything - and it is more sustainable, and makes transitioning into maintenance easier. Thank you for all of the advice! I’m not sure fasting would be suitable for myself due to medication I am as it could be dangerous and not advised by my gp. But thank you x
