This is a very supportive forum but it will be important for you to have the best management of your thyroid condition, so the Thyroid UK forum will be a key support for you.
Hi Unhappymaisie hopefully you will soon become happymaisie. You ave come t the right place .My first advice to you is ditch SW been there and done it not very successfully myself. Go and look at the NHS 12week plan which costs you,,,absolutely nothing. You need a healthy eating plan not a diet. Work on your weight loss journey taking small steps working towards losing 7lbs at a time . After 17 months I still weigh everything, count the calories and write it all down. It has to be a new lifestyle which you can sustain for the rest of your life. I too am on medication for high blood pressure and cholesterol problems . Since losing weight my blood pressure is right down and my cholesterol has halved so you can do it. Join a weigh in group where you will get to know others who will give you lots of support and encouragement. Make a note of your measurements too so if you don’t lose any pounds sometime you will see the inches disappear. You have taken the first step on your journey by coming on here and you can do it. Hope these flowers will cheer you on your way. Sue 🌷🌷🌷
Hi there Maisie. I just want to give you some hope by saying that I have been hypothroid for over 35 years now, diagnosed when I had my first child. For decades it was my excuse for weight gain, but now I know that as long as you are on the right dosage with your medication, it needn't be a reason any more for weight gain. For me calorie counting was the way I lost weight, and the mainly good habits I acquired over the 18 months or so when I was losing are what help me maintain now. Plus the support you get from this forum is absolutely tremendous, and I think most of us regulars here would say we couldn't have done it without the HU fellow weight losers on here. Good luck!
This can be done in combination with the Low-Carbohydrate, High-Fat diet see the forum here on Health Unlocked, and almost any other diet advice you might read here.
