I normally go to a gym class last on Wednesday's but my hip pain has been really bad so i have to rest. So instead of doing exercise I ate chocolate. No idea why i did it, i have been really good since i started but it was almost like i didnt care. How does anyone else cope with this?

Best way of coping: don't beat yourself up, just move on. And I'd say /definitely/ don't try to go super-low calorie to 'make up for it'. Just get back to your healthy eating plan and any small gain in weight due to the chocolate will very soon be gone.
Maybe if you face a similar situation again have a think about how you might comfort yourself in other ways when you face pain and/or boredom - because you do deserve some comfort! Contact a friend for a phone or online or real-life chat? Have a nice bath?
I posted on a similar thing, have a look at the encouraging answers I got, post was called 'NOT going back to yo-yo dieting'.
Thanks, at the time i never feel bad then a day later i do. I want to try to take food away as being a fixer if that makes sense eg if happy eat, if sad eat. I will read your post about yo yo dieting
I don't keep anything like that in the house as I wouldn't find it helpful.
I hope being "really good" doesn't mean really restrictive. For me, once I started losing weight I didn't want to have a relapse so that kept me focused, particularly being part of a weigh in team and coming here as often as possible to read posts and respond to others.
I live with family and they are super fit and can eat whatever they want. I can't say to them not to buy it if they want it. No being good was just about not having the pudding or the 2nd bit of cake
I too have been suffering recently with hip pain. I've been a bit slack on my exercise. I do 1.5 hours of stretching usually each day, but have been away and then just didn't get back to my routine. I can say from just doing the exercises yesterday and today, my hip pain has subsided substantially!
Hello sorry to hear you are struggling a bit at the moment, would you like to join our summer challenge? Here is the link to tell you all about it, hope to see you there!
Yes. If your hip pain is bad you’re stressed so you need to soothe yourself slowdown. I think it’s ok you had some. Maybe split up the chocolate into baggies to you can see how much you’ve eaten. Maybe next time you’ll just have 2 or 3 instead of the whole thing which most of us tend to do.
I believe we eat to settle stress soothe in pain. I have chronic pain. Try to tell yourself to slow down do a gentle walk stretching get physio get a massage. You’re probably overworking either your hips & core or butt or back not strong enough hopefully physio can see what area needs tweaking. Get a hug stress is a huge issue we hold onto it
So we have found over time walking is the worst thing for causing the pain. How do you cope woth the pain? I find it brings me down
Right now I’m not I’m sitting too much or try to walk too far. Take painkillers with food and lots of baths with Epsom salts get massage. I find active release therapy ART done by chiropractic therapy is the best. I can’t emphasize that enough by a good practitioner. I would hire a kinesiologist it’s worth it to see where your imbalances are so you can’t work on that. I’m guessing you’re guarding probably tight hamstrings weak glutes core pelvis tight. You probably have to lay off walking and concentrate on floor mat work and don’t sit too long. I had hip surgery I know your pain. Put your health first your stress. The mind does a lot with pain & it’s normal to be stressed with pain. I know. You might find going the pool doing hip exercises in there useful. I had to with 80 yr olds they kicked my butt too. Stay on top with pain meds with food and be ok with weight gain while you go through it. You’re injured. Do YouTube stress affirmations guided meditation visit with friends. Eat wholesome foods and allow treats prepackaged.
A lot of people will be happy to take your money in recovery. You have to choose wisely. That’s why I offer you my past recovery. I got hurt again and have emotional issues from things. Stay in top of the stress go to therapy if necessary alter your activities. I know the pool is a whole thing getting wet working around schedules but it’s the best. Let the kinesiologist tell you what’s wrong that’s your starting point second ART therapy to help release the tight bands as you work through your exercise program. Baths for relaxation and heat recovery. Food protein and low sugar. That’s my advice. I gained 30 lbs with back to back surgeries 3 months apart major 9 years ago. You have to accept weight gain if it’s that bad. Just watch the sugar carbs. Once I found my groove I did lose the weight back then and more so from prior. It’s possible.
Dont dwell on it, brush it off and try to continue with your programme. If your hips are to sore to exercise, try asking a trainer at your gym about exercises that you can do sitting down and only involve the upper body.
Good luck to you and keep going.
Hello, Jimmyjimmy, are you wanting to lose weight and join the forum or are you just here to offer support? You're very welcome, either way
Hello BridgeGirl.
I am here to offer support where possible.
Thankyou for the welcome.
🙂
I understand exactly what you are saying Coffee-cake. I have chronic pain from back problems. I walk when I am able and when my pain is too much I don’t. Cut down just a little bit but not a lot, because it works it self out in the end. So just do what you can. 😊😊
Be kind to yourself, you’re only human after all! Me ? I’m recovering from overdosing on Easter eggs! Yet I rarely eat chocolate the rest of the time! Sometimes we eat stuff due to emotional needs rather than hunger. I used to lose my appetite when I felt stressed or upset, but now I’m more likely to raid the cookie jar, so I make sure I don’t buy any biscuits. If it ain’t in the house, I can’t eat it.
I did this last night. Is there something worrying you or making you sad? I usually find it's when I'm not coping mentally, so try to deal with mental health first. I use a mindfulness meditation now and it helps me to be kind to myself and helps me to focus instead of wearing myself out worrying about things that may or may not happen. Hope you get throughtvthis blip.
I love your name, do you have a fabulous recipe by any chance, I put kahlua in mine. But, I make it very rarely as I cant get it low carb.
A day passes and a new one starts. Dont beat yourself up, just start again. I try my best not to use terms good or bad with food as I dont think its helpful mentally.
I try to keep to the plan I make when I shop online, write it on the fridge and hope to stick to it.
Regardless of your weight or physical appearance you are valuable and a woman in your own right x
Wow
That’s a lot you have lost!
How did you do that?
Hi, I developed respiratory failure and was extremely poorly. This scared me to death and I decided to look at lchf as I'd been stalking on the diabetes site and it seemed effective.
I also use intermittent fasting 8: 16. Together this has worked for me.
I dont get weighed cos it drives me insane, I get weighed on hospital visits. I gauge how I'm doing by blood sugars and how. my clothes fit (or dont as is the case recently).
I plan and plan and plan. I love lists. I have all the time to just see to me as I retired early 5 years ago.
Finding things which are tasty helps, cloud bread is one of them and I make a pizza or sandwich.
I dont buy many "special" low carb things, I tried the pasta, it was very expensive and was tasteless and felt like cardboard in my mouth.
I hope this has been helpful. I've been overweight yo yoing for years. Desperate measures were needed to stay alive, literally. That is how and why I've finally started to get the weight off.
Cheers Scouse x
Hi I could do with finding out too!
Like yourself I’m doing well and everything is on track then I binge!!
Have no idea what is the trigger and angry with myself for sabotaging my own diet.
I have now learned to accept I might go off track but it’s not the end all. I can exercise to counter out the damage and get back on track the next day don’t let it spiral and I eaten it already so try and enjoy it!!
I see if I can break my record and count how many Binge free days I can last. It definitely has got longer and as I don’t want to break my run I try really hard!
Also I use distraction for example time if I can last longer then 20mins the feeling has usually gone if I still want to eat after 20 then I go for it as I know nothing can stop The urges to eat.
Being kinder to yourself is key and wish you the best in your journey.
Hi be kind to yourself and draw a line under it. I got that advice earlier this week and by being positive and not dwelling on the slip ups, i have found it easier to move on with my weight loss journey.... I hope! My one year old is regressing sleep wise so i have had a cappuccino with chocolate sprinkles this morning because i think its ok to also listen to what we need. I will make up for it with soup for lunch and i have a 5k run tomorrow xx
I have left hip pain but found that all the extra walking I have been doing has really helped and strengthened it in between C25K.
I also found some good exercises on arthritisresearchuk.org a pdf on exercises for hip pain was useful.
I know exactly how it is with chocolate - I can go months without and then it just overwhelms you usually on a day when your plans or emotions go wrong.
You can only move on and forget it and start again as soon as possible.
Good luck 😉 it is all worthwhile!
