I downloaded the NHS 12 week weight loss plan the other week, it’s still sat there on my desk. It cannot continue, I need to get a handle on this weight loss journey. I’ve tried all the diets as most females of my age have (62) My first was with Weight Watchers in the 1970’s to get into my favourite hot pants. Times have changed and weight loss is now in the main a matter of benefits to health, I have osteoarthritis and though I am quite active, losing the pounds will help day to day with activity, as well as growing older looking and feeling good.
A day doesn’t go by without we’re told by the media the dangers of obesity, whether it’s diabetes, cardiovascular disease or cancer. Having just had a pancreatic cancer scare, I don’t want to go through that again, so lose the weight, lose some of the worry. You can’t protect yourself from all disease but you owe it to yourself to minimise the ones you can. Easier said than done, says she a serial yo yo dieter.
It takes effort to change your life around, ok so I’m not going to get my hot pants out ever again, but feeling good in a great pair of jeans is motivation for starters. Small, sensible steps is going to be my approach, not the bull in a china shop approach of past of crash dieting. I wish everyone luck with their journey, sure we’ll get there in the end

You've made two big important steps. You've downloaded the NHS 12 week plan and you've posted here. If you come here regularly, it's almost impossible not to do well as the helpful friendly people will always be here for you whether you're doing well or if you're having a bad day
You'll find that the emphasis isn't really on dieting but on living healthily. The latter provides you with the tools to continue once you have reached your weight goal.
You've provided many goals and reasons for weight loss and staying focused on them will definitely help.
You're spot on when you say 'small, sensible steps'. There is no rush and for those that do rush is when it nearly always doesn't work.
It is great that you realise your situation and want to change, it's the same as mine, I am aware of creaky knees and hips fed up of carrying this bulk around and unless change is made the nursing home is in direct site.So I am determined to try hard and I have, it's my first week nearly done and I feel great so fingers crossed for weigh in tomorrow.
