Is it a myth - or do obese people tend to put on weight when they are ill - and slim people lose?

I feel rough - I have hay fever and I have lost the will to eat.

I am already just about in my maintenance range - and, last time I weighed myself I was three pounds below my target weight for the week.

I don't know about the myth S11m but look after yourself and I hope you feel better soon and find your appetite, do you have some soup or something to tempt you?

Does hay fever respond to autophagy?

Not sure, not something I'd go for, fasting wouldn't work for me.

I don't think so, but it is auto-immune and involves inflammation, so may be of benefit it those regards.

Feed a cold, starve a fever, S11m. When you are ill, take care of yourself, eating nourishing food, or whatever you fancy, and worry about what the scales say when you feel better. 🤗

I might abandon my scheme of losing only one pound a week - and get to my target quicker... and then try not to put it on again!

Great idea! Take care 😊

I think you should abandon your regime and make yourself eat - body probably needs some extra energy to fight the hay fever and if it doesn't get it you'll take longer to feel healthy again. Your own rules say 1lb a week so you know it makes sense!

The theory is that, if you have a few spare pounds, they will give you the energy to get over many illnesses... and I knew four ladies who lost their appetite when they were ill - and died.

All the more reason for you to eat more when not feeling 100% :)

I had the flu for 2 weeks wasn’t well enough to go to exercise classes and eating dropped off and lost 6 lbs so I wouldn’t say overweight people gain when I’ll, not from personal experience

On the weigh-ins people often blame weight gain on illness.

I slept OK last night, and I am feeling better… and I gained a pound.

Which will go pretty quickly 😉 I’ve spent whole life blaming metabolism etc for being 4-6 stone overweight. Since September I’ve lost nearly 3 so now 3 over just aiming to lose 1 more but it was my overeating bad habits and any excuse to eat that gained it. Looking at habits, eating smaller portions and more vegetables. Not eating what others are and planning ahead. Finally feel confident I’ve changed my habits for good & feel so much fitter. We can all succeed we just need to want it enough.

That's brilliant! Have you joined a weigh in day? We have a nice select little club on Thursdays! ("Think Thinners") but you can chooses any day of the week and find lots of people cheering you on :)
